I recently purchased the WD - BLACK SN850X 4TB Internal SSD, excited about the potential boost in storage and performance for my system. Unfortunately, my experience has been deeply disappointing due to the SSD being defective. Despite extensive troubleshooting, including updating my motherboard's BIOS, checking and rechecking physical connections, and trying different SSD slots, the drive was never recognized by my system. I even consulted various technical resources to ensure I wasn't missing any steps in the installation process. My motherboard, an ASRock Z690-C/D5, is fully compatible with NVMe PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSDs, so compatibility should not have been an issue. The situation was frustrating, especially considering the premium price point of this product. An SSD of this caliber and cost should work seamlessly, or at the very least, have reliable customer support to assist when issues arise. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I had high expectations for this WD - BLACK SN850X SSD, given the reputation of Western Digital and the advertised capabilities of the product. It's disheartening to encounter such a critical issue right out of the box. I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for others considering this SSD. It's imperative for high-end components like this to undergo rigorous quality checks before reaching consumers.

Only had like 3.6 TB on it. I know you dont get a full 4tb regardless of what brand you go with, but seriously, why advertise it as a 4tb drive if is missing almost 500gb of storage?

Works great in my laptop. Running out of space for games.

Easy to install and format. The only reason for the 4 star is the price.

This has been a really odd experience for me. I bought this to install in my gaming laptop and it ended up only being detected between 10-20% of the time. It may be an issue with the laptop, but after reinstalling it multiple times, there was no difference. I’ve tried others and they functioned properly. The only saving factor was I was able to switch the one I had in my ps5 and it seems to work appropriately in there. Very odd. It is possible it’s a Western Digital issue? It ended up working out in the end, so I guess that’s a good thing…

Fastest drive on the market for Gen 4 PCIe. WD wins again.

bestbuy stocks a specific not truly recognized version of this drive to avoid pricematching with other retailers, despite the fact the drive is the same as the universal ‎WDS400T2X0E and its shown here on bestbuy's product page under "from the manufacturer - documents - product sheet" they deny the price match request because of this made up model number they have. I'd advise to not get ripped off and just buy it somewhere else

May be a bad lemon I got. Crashed my PC three times. Partitioned 2 Tb. Used as a main drive but Didn’t work well for me. Slower than Dell series 40 in dell system.

Purchased June 2023. Has failed as of July 2024. Not even viewable in Disk Manager.

Great SSD, good storage space and quick read and write speeds. I personally have not found anything that beats this drive performance wise. I am using in external storage thunderbolt case.

I bought this for my new PS5Pro... Super easy install and a great addition to the system.... Super easy way to add a lot of storage to your gaming system... Excellent price to boot for 4tb of space!
