    I needed a new hard drive for our laptop computer. It's an Apple - but too old for the Genius Bar to help. I spoke with a salesperson at Best Buy and asked what I needed. They gave me this and assured me I could do it myself. NO SUCH LUCK. Yes, I could install it myself. Only I don't have the software to get it up and running and it did not come with the hard drive. I can't rate it's performance because I still have yet to get a professional to install the correct software. Very annoying and misleading.

    I purchased this unit as an upgrade to the 500GB unit that came standard with the MacBook Pro. It is easy to install, so the $50 price tag was much more alluring than paying 3x that much to have Apple install it. The unit operated fine for the first 6 months or so, but then started to exhibit slower and slower boot up times, and it seemed to get "lost" quite often and I spent way too much time staring at the beachball from h**l. Finally last week, it flat out would not boot up. Luckily, I had backed up the drive before this happened, so no data was lost. I would not recommend this drive, nor any other rotating media for a laptop application. The reliability is just too suspect. I upgraded to the PNY 500GB solid state drive, and I could not be happier with the blazing speed and stability of my system. It's literally like having a new computer.
