The size of the drive is a problem if you want it to be your boot drive. A 32 bit system will only recognize 2tb. I had to exchange it for a drive that size.

It’s dead. No combination of power supply cords would fire it up. Checked with cords that run to other working drives, and no bueno.

Seems to work fine, but very noisy for a new drive. Gives me a little concern.

I bought it, and it had a lesser hard drive model. It was the last one so I never got to use it.

Bought the drive because it was cheap for the amount of storage offered. I've had the drive for a couple months now and its already failing. Everything was fine at first, transferred over about 1.5TB of stuff just fine and this week when I was trying to add more I started getting I/O errors. Running WD's data lifeguard diagnostics indicates multiple bad sectors. Tried repairing them in windows and it seemed to work at first but I keep getting errors. This is my first "green" drive and it will be the last. Stick to black or blue or go Seagate.

I had filled up my 1TB drive and was looking for a reliable, inexpensive internal HD with room to expand. The WD Mainstream 3 TB drive was simple to install, trouble free and included software that made copying data smooth and easy.

All retail drives should include a SATA cable. Yes they're cheap so it should be included. Especially since you're expecting it. Well anyways so far so good. It's only been installed on my sister's pc for a few weeks. Will update if it fails. It does not come with installation software which is needed in Windows 8 unless you want to use Windows 8 built in software which only allows you to create simple volumes. You need to download it from their site. A direct link would be helpful instead of having to do search around for it. So I used MiniTool Partition wizard instead. Very easy and simple to use. I only recommend this drive if you can get it for under $100 total.

    Drive failed prematurely

Drive crashed after less than 1 month. Also, Best Buy charged about the same amount for a lower RPM drive (5400) as online sites charge for the faster transfer rate (7200).

Excellent HDD for gaming and entertainment use. I been using it for boot / start my PC for years. It's a little slower downloading games but get tons of memory for an afforable price. Better for media pic / video / files. I now use a SSD for gaming and downloading.

I may have gotten a bad one. Very rare that that has happened with a WD. I have never had a bad one but i guess every good thing has a bad apple. Maybe better luck next time.

Drive failed within 1.5 years of use. I had 2 other HDD's in the system that did and still do run completely fine. Poor QA from WD.

I haven’t had any issues with this hard drive at all. Easy to install. Have had it for a few years now and it’s still running as smoothly as it did the day I got it.

Lots of storage for the $$$

I spent several hours on the install. My computer is older and there's a 3TB limit in the BIOS/Drivers (I have several 1 TB and 1.5TB drives installed). At first only 750GB of 3TB was recognized (Arghh). After a lot of google searching I found it was necessary to install Intel RST and use the WD Acronis install tool to enable all 3 TB. It works fine now. The Geek Squad wanted to charge me for support. I expect free support on a new product. Western Digital seems to monitor the reviews and offer help. Check out www.pcworld.com/article/235088/everything-you-need-to-know-about-3tb-hard-drives.html. It appears several people have had a similar problem.

This is the second Hard Drive I had installed in my computer in order to solve my GB requirements. Best Buy had the 3TB internal HD on sale for about $100 and what a value. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to expand their internal storage needs. Also, I had Best Buy's Geek Squad install this for me and since I am on their annual service plan, there was no additional cost to me in terms of time nor money. Nice!!

So basically the first one i bought was DOA, which is fine it happens and its not that life threatening to take it back and replace it so thats why it doesn't lose any stars. So anyway, the second works just fine, the storage is great, the speeds are okay its understandable seeing as the storage is high.
