GOOD WITH 1 EXCEPTION ON W7
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On w7 there is a maximum of 2TB that it can format ,but it will follow the command and format the drive anyhow. in your computers disc management you will see 1.81 TB [which is the useable space of 2TB] and in a gray unavailable section will be the other TB you can't use. Formatting again on W8.1 it formats the entire drive.Something else you should know is having a motherboard with 6GB per second transfer rate headers,if you use the old 3GB per second cables, you are only getting 3GB per second speed from the drive because that is it's maximum rate. You need the 6GB per second data cables to have the "bandwidth"that supports 6 GB rate. The cables look the same on the outside, but there is a huge difference inside.

Poor Sata Port Construction
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using the drive for a couple of months, it delivered as expected. I was using it for a Windows 7 build and it performed just fine with the exception that my motherboard can't see any bigger than a 2 tb partition which I wasn't aware of till I configured it. Overall it was a solid drive and I could access all 3Tb across two separate partitions. The reason for the poor rating is that after doing a slight reconfiguration of my SATA devices, the plastic tab in the SATA port broke off in the cable. By gingerly re-seating all of the pins I can get the device to work and I plan to make sure it stays that way with some electrical tape, but honestly it shouldn't have broke in the first place. This is the first western digital desktop drive I've used in awhile, but based on this material defect I'm sticking with seagate from here on in and I'd advise others to do the same. When I called WD they said they'd assess it if I mailed it in, but their warranty does not cover physical damage, so don't expect a replacement. I suppose one person's physical damage is another persons material defect. All the same, I rather expected more.

1 Awesome, 1 DOA
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought 2 drives at the same time - didn't use the 2nd drive until over a month had passed - just tried using it to a number of issues - including being unable to format. then randomly being undetected by windows and tonight (after I thought I had figured it out) now being unusable again. Luckily I hadn't started saving to it yet and nothing was lost.
