Great Storage Expansion Option - Very Easy Setup

Simply put, it works great. The expansion card is plug and play, meaning all I needed to do was take it out of the package and plug it into the back of the Xbox. The Xbox immediately recognizes it and adds the storage to the system. I didn’t have to do any setup, such as formatting the card, etc. When my current storage was full and I needed to download another game, the Xbox informed me that the new game will be installed on the expansion card (see picture). This expansion card is different from other storage devices; it’s designed to perform exactly like the internal Solid-State Drive (SSD) that came with the Xbox. And while it is possible to plug in a hard drive via a 3.1 USB connection and add additional storage space, you’re not able to play the latest Next-Gen games directly off the external hard drive. They would first need to be copied to the internal SSD before the system can play them. It is not the case with this WD_Xbox expansion card. Since it acts just like the internal storage, games can be stored and played on the Xbox from the expansion card itself. A few other things worth mentioning, Western Digital includes a 5 year warranty on this drive. Black series SSDs are made for performance and speed. And their failure rate is historically lower than other drives. You are paying a premium for this SSD, but the convenience it provides is worth the money to me. The fact that my Xbox Series S came with only 364GB of usable storage, it’s nice having the extra storage space this card provides.

I ordered my hard drive on December 3rd and received it roughly a week later. My Xbox has already gave me a warning saying the hard drive I bought was bad quality and recommended I either get a new one or stop using it entirely. I haven’t even had it for a month. I assume the product is good I just got a dud/mess up, I’d be happy to rate 5 stars but, I spent money and got a bad package so like yea…

This is a much needed upgrade to an amazing next-gen console. I'm so glad they are starting to make other options for these units as they are a proprietary design for the Xbox One Series X. I also am a fan of Western Digital. This drive came well packaged with a quick start card and as a bonus came with a Game Pass Ultimate trial code. The unit is quite small in size. I took a photo of it in my hand for reference. There is not much to installing this. Open the package and insert the unit in to the back of your console. I put mine in with the console completely off. Im not sure its hot swappable but I imagine it is because its 2023 after all. I would defer to the vendor for that information though. Install was simple and my Xbox recognized it without issue. I went to the storage settings within the settings and formatted the unit for use in my Xbox only. After I formatted the card, I went ahead and transferred one of my games to it and I was pretty shocked to see the 5+Gbps speed of which I also took a photo. This unit is extremely fast. I did not notice any slower speeds with loading the game I moved to the new card so I was quite impressed. This is an excellent upgrade for the Xbox One Series X as it doubles your storage without slowing down your system. I would highly recommend this as an additional storage solution.

In the great console wars that have been raging for decades, I take no sides and consider my loyalties up for grabs with every console cycle. I tend to own gaming systems from at least 2 of the big 3 (Sony, Microsoft, and I still consider Nintendo a viable gaming platform albeit in a distant third) anyway, as well as a gaming laptop. Each console has their pros and cons and I consider how the Xbox handles its storage to be the superior method. It's plug and play design is simple to understand and convenient. Physically, it has a small profile and doesn't stick out too much. I don't think it will hinder any position you sit your Xbox in. Obviously, the size makes it very portable or easy to store should you own multiple expansion cards. Once properly installed and formatted, it read 919.9GB of storage. Write speeds and/or downloading games and apps didn't seem any slower than downloading to the internal storage. Or at least it wasn't noticeable to my eye. Neither was loading from the card. And just cause I'm paranoid, I checked the card after a few hours of continuous play, and it wasn't warm to the touch. I think this is a simple and convenient storage solution.

    Good, But Overpriced

PRICING: Let's just be honest. As of writing this in 2023, you can obtain 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs for around $100 or less if you know where to look. As a result, PS5 owners are able to expand their SSD storage to even larger capacities than Xbox Series owners for drastically less money. CONVENIENCE: However, it's important to mention that if you're the kind of person who has multiple consoles or find it valuable to take your game library to another Xbox within your home or even a friend's house, this C50 Expansion Card from Western Digital is significantly more convenient. You can run your games directly off the Expansion Card, and with no performance caveats. INSTALLATION: On the back of the Series S or X consoles you will find the Expansion Card slot, which might be a bit annoying if your console is nestled into a tighter cubby space of your entertainment system. I installed the C50 into my Series X and was prompted to select 1 of two options—was I to keep the expansion card permanently installed in this Xbox, or did I intend to use it across multiple Xbox Series console? Given that I have both a Series X and Series S, I chose the latter. TRANSFER SPEED: First thing I did was actually move some games off my internal storage onto the C50, and I found that it topped out at 6Gbps which is about 750 Megabytes per second. This means that moving games that are 100GB+ in size can typically be achieved in 1-2 minutes. Most titles will be moved significantly faster than that, however. GAMEPLAY: Unsurprisingly, I had no issues with playing games directly off the Expansion Card. While it can certainly experience heat during gameplay, I didn't find that to have any impact on my experience. I'd just recommend that you ensure your Xbox Series console is given ample space for air intake and exhaust. PORTABILITY: The C50 Expansion Card also comes with a sleeve to keep dust, water and debris out while it's not plugged in, which is good. Given the expansion card has a small hole on it, you can also put it on a keychain or lanyard if you feel so inclined to do so. CONCLUSION: Overall, the Western Digital Black C50 is a good product, but it's also just overpriced in 2023. Given that at the time of writing there are only 2 companies manufacturing expansion cards, it means that there's really not enough competition to bring down the pricing of these expansion cards. And while I'm happy to see that there's a reduction in price compared to the launch price of the 1TB Expansion Card in 2020, it still feels like an exorbitant cost to pay. While I don't have any issue with the product itself, I would hope to see it on sale from time to time.

I recently got my hands on the WD BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox, and I must say, it has truly transformed my gaming experience. If you're looking to supercharge your Xbox console's performance, this expansion card is an absolute game-changer. Installation was a breeze. The card seamlessly fits into the back of the Xbox console, effortlessly expanding the storage capacity. With up to 2TB of additional space, (I had the 1TB version) I no longer worry about running out of room for my favorite games. Plus, the compact design ensures it doesn't obstruct any other ports or cables, maintaining a clean setup. The performance boost is where the WD BLACK C50 truly shines. Thanks to the PCIe Gen4 interface, the loading times have been significantly reduced. Games load faster, and there's a noticeable decrease in in-game loading screens. The card's speed is mind-boggling, ensuring a smooth and seamless gaming experience, even for resource-intensive titles. What impressed me the most is the enhanced gaming performance. The WD BLACK C50 Expansion Card optimizes the transfer speeds, ensuring games run flawlessly. The improved responsiveness and reduced input lag have made a notable difference, allowing me to react quickly in fast-paced multiplayer games. The card supports Xbox Velocity Architecture, maximizing the performance potential of the console. The build quality is excellent. The card feels sturdy and durable, and I have no concerns about its reliability. WD BLACK has a reputation for producing high-quality storage solutions, and the C50 Expansion Card lives up to those expectations. Another noteworthy feature is the WD_BLACK Dashboard. This software provides real-time performance monitoring, temperature management, and firmware updates, ensuring your expansion card is always up to date. It's a convenient tool that adds an extra layer of control and customization. However, it's important to note that the WD BLACK C50 Expansion Card is specifically designed for Xbox Series X|S consoles and may not be compatible with other devices. So, make sure to check the compatibility before making a purchase. In conclusion, the WD BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox is a must-have accessory for any serious Xbox gamer. It offers generous storage space, lightning-fast speeds, and improved gaming performance. With its seamless installation and reliable build quality, this expansion card is an investment that will undoubtedly enhance your gaming experience. I highly recommend it to all Xbox Series X|S owners looking to take their gaming to the next level.

Flawless Xbox expansion from WB Black

This new expansion drive from WD is a no brainer. I have multiple WD Black drives across my home, and even have the WD Black external expansion drive that I was currently using with my Xbox Series X, connected via USB-C. I was excited that they now offer a direct internal Xbox Series X expansion drive and couldn’t wait to try it out. The drive is plug and play. Simply install the drive into the expansion slot on the back of your Xbox Series X/S and it is recognized right away. You are given prompts to select whether the drive will be used on one or multiple Xbox’s so it can configure itself properly and then its ready to use immediately. You get 920GB of useable drive space. The build quality is wonderful, full metal casing on the drive itself and rugged plastic for the covering. Feels nice and heavy in the hand. It even includes a snap on cover when not in use or when traveling. This drive simply becomes a second internal storage option for the Xbox. No more having to install titles saved on an expansion drive in order to play them. The games and apps are ready to use immediately, just like they are when using the internal Xbox SSD. The drive is designed to utilize the Xbox Velocity Architecture so it operates exactly like your internal Xbox SSD. All the speed and capability is here, including Quick Resume. Running titles directly from this expansion drive is flawless, and in some cases can actually load quicker and run faster. Moving and copying files to the drive is blazing fast. I was able to reach almost 6Gbps when transferring titles like COD and Fortnite, which are hundreds of GBs large. Great addition to the Xbox to expand storage capacity and not sacrifice any bit of performance or capability.

Being the proud owner of a Series X and an S, I am quickly running out of space, since I really do not purchase physical media anymore and major games can take almost 150GB (gulp!). I did install an HDD on each unit, but that only allows for legacy (old) titles -not the newest ones. The SSD is rather small and light. Nevertheless, it seems well built, and doesn’t look that bad. Installing is super easy. There are no cables; just find the slot in the back of the console, plug it in, and turn it on. The console will automatically find it. There is no need to format it or set it up. I downloaded a hefty 50G plus game straight into the SSD and it worked without any issues. Then, I transferred a 110GB title into it and the process was rather fast. I tested loading speeds and both the internal and SSD storage performed at the same speed, perhaps a second or two faster on internal storage, and that only rarely. The other huge advantage is that this SSD can be used as portable storage for games. I was able to play games on both of my consoles from the SSD without having to transfer the game to the internal storage -nice! The fact that this is easier on the pocket than the other SSD brand, that it performs flawlessly, and that it “fixes” the storage problem with large games (or libraries) as well as being portable, makes it so easy for me to recommend it -especially if you own a Series S.

    More Storage Space, Less Hassle

Western Digital has taken the expansion storage market by storm and with the release of the current gen consoles like playstation 5 and xbox series x and s, the demand was at an all time high. Now nearly three years later we have perhaps the best option to safely upgrade our storage with external storage expansion cards for the xbox consoles from either the 512gb or 1tb version. These aren’t the first expansion cards on the block but there’s no better time than now to upgrade. Out of the box I was pleasantly surprised just by how small and sleek the design was, this being my first external storage card. Also, the free one month of gamepass ultimate was a nice touch, if you haven’t signed up yet. It really reminds me of the good ol days when we had to use memory cards to save games for retro consoles when hard drives weren’t available. Portability here is the key, you want to add storage first and foremost and then have the option to take that with you. If you’re new to this like I was, you’ll be happy to know the ease of use is one of the best parts. Simply plug the device into your console’s storage expansion slot and you’re good to go. It’s recommended to plug or unplug the expansion card to/from the console when it is powered off. If its not all the way connected you may get an alert saying the card connection is weak or could not be read. Just make sure its secure in the console before booting up. Once connected, I was greeted automatically with a external storage ready message and immediately able to move/copy games. It all worked smooth and quickly. I used my xbox series s and moved a game to the c50, then unplugged it and connected it to my xbox series x and it worked like a charm. As a disclaimer the 1TB version actually has 920 gb of space available, something to keep in mind. It's worth noting, the expansion card is more ideal for users with a series s, as it does have the least amount of native storage (for now). As stated previously my experience with the c50 was easy to use and the convenience of taking your games to play on different consoles is superb. This is by far the best option for transferring games or copying them between internal and external. It’s much faster than redownloading the same game onto the console over wifi. One downside I ran into was trying to set up the c50 to be the primary location for downloads. It gave me a message stating that I had to format the device on a PC first before that could be done, meanwhile I had already formatted it on my xbox. So I just had to install the game locally first and then move it over to the c50. This isn't the end of the world but would definitely save some time. Overall, id say the WD_Black c50 is well worth it whether you want to increase your storage or have an easier way to bring your games on the go. If you don’t want to wait for the a series s console with 1tb of storage to be announced, then this is your next best option.

Solid Upgrade for Xbox Storage, But Not Perfect

I grabbed the WD C50 1TB Expansion Card for my Xbox Series X because I was constantly deleting games to make space, and honestly, it’s been a solid pickup. Plug it into the back of the console and it works instantly. No formatting headaches, no messing with settings. It feels just like using the internal storage. Games load fast, Quick Resume works perfectly, and I haven’t noticed any performance difference at all. The extra 1TB definitely helps, especially with how huge games are now. That said, it still fills up quicker than you’d think once you install a few big titles. Also, it’s not cheap compared to regular external drives, so the price is the only thing that stings a little. Fast, simple, and reliable. If you want more space without sacrificing performance, it’s a great option. Just be ready to pay a bit for the convenience.

Extra storage is a must for the xbox because you only get 1 TB for the internal storage. Without this you can’t install too many games and this gives you more flexibility. This solid state drives plugs into an xbox almost like a flash drive and barely sticks out of the xbox. It is plug and play easy to use.

I just received the new WD_Black C50 Expansion Card for Xbox X|S and so far, I couldn’t be happier. Games now are becoming so massive in terms of storage that you can only keep a few favorites on your console’s internal storage without having to look at an external solution. External expansion packs are usually very expensive for an SSD, or you have to be super careful not to drop or knock around an external HDD. Well, this new C50 Expansion Card solves those problems! This card is the best of both worlds, it’s an SSD and it plugs right into your Xbox console leaving no wires or external device taking up precious desk space. I have got the 1TB version, which literally doubles the size of my Xbox storage in my Series X but, they also have a 512GB version. A great feature is that I can install a game on one Xbox and easily transfer it to another Xbox in a different room, no more waiting to download and install it again. I am so glad Western Digital swooped in and finally broke the monopoly on Xbox expansion packs. Before the prices were outrageous, but now there is finally competition in this space with trusted companies. No need to buy sketchy expansion packs offline, stick with the trusted pros! Setting up the expansion pack was so simple. Take it out of the box, and with your Xbox off, plug it into the respective slot on the back, and you’re done. There was a quick guide that the expansion card came with that is tiny and in multiple languages, it appears that there would be a prompt that may pop up when the Xbox is turned on suggesting formatting the new drive, but that didn’t happen for me. It was plug-in and go, no formatting was needed. In all, I am thrilled with this WD_Black C50 Expansion Card for Xbox X|S, I love the way it looks, the way it comes with a protective sheath/cover, the way it plugs in and is out of the way, I love the price point, and most of all I love not having to decide which of my games has to get the axe to make room for a new game, the game installing/uninstalling shuffle is a struggle, now I don’t have to worry. This product rocks!

This review isn't going to have a ton of substance because this drive does one thing, and does it well. The real pro behind this coming out is that it gives Seagate some competition so these drives will inevitably come down in price, which is needed given how cheap PS5's storage option is. That will no longer be a feather in the PS5 cap. Now Xbox is getting to closer in price AND a much easier solution to use. Anyways.... Here's the good: -Acts as internal storage: play X|S enhanced games from this without having to use the internal storage. -Plug and play: literally just plug it in and pick whether you expect it to move to other consoles or not. I'm not sure what it does, though I would suspect it takes a little more storage to format in the option to take it. I picked "keep in console" and didn't look back. -Transfer rate: being a solid state drive (SSD), you can write data to it very quickly, which makes filling it a breeze. Even better is if you need to shuffle stuff around between the internal SSD and this. I was getting anywhere between 5.5 and 6.0 Gbps on that. Flight Sim and Forza Horizon, 145 and 125 Gb respectively, went to this drive in like 15 min. Nuts. What's less good: -There really isn't much to complain about. It was kind of hard to push into the back, but maybe the Seagate drive is too. It's fine because I have no plans to take it out either as I'm the only one I know personally with a Series console. -Rendered my external HDD kind of obsolete as most games are X|S optimized and won't play as well from there. Should you buy this? -Do you have a lot of games you don't want to uninstall/reinstall? -Do you play mostly X|S optimized games? -Do you have GamePass? If you answered "yes" to any or all of those, yes, get it if you have the cash to burn. Otherwise you can continue the SSD/HDD shuffle. Side note: if you get this and don't have GamePass yet, or it's inactive, look up "Xbox Live Gold to GamePass Ultimate" and see if the conversion still works when you're reading this as there's a free month code included.

Simple Storage Upgrade For Xbox Series S/X

Simple fast storage upgrade for your Xbox Series S / X. Comes in a small package, so is very easy to lose, but the device itself has heft for its size. Comes with a cover for the part that sticks into the slot on the Xbox Series console, cover looks like the case on recent Western Digital Xbox branded external hard drives. This is the fast expansion memory, that allows you to store AND play the Xbox Series S/X version games. You put it in the expansion slot, set it up with a few choices on the screen, then you have about 920 gigs to put stuff on. If for some reason you have a need to move a game from the internal fast memory to this new expansion card, you will see how fast the tech is, it transfers at a super fast speed. I do still recommend having an external USB drive plugged into your Xbox for apps and older games. If you are going for a clean look, you can use 256gb or 512gb USB memory sticks for this, the small ones, they will stick out about the same as this expansion card does. Super fast, can play the games with the "X/S" marking on them, glad the other Expansion Card maker finally got some competition to lower the prices a bit.

I wanted a second solution for the my Xbox Series X to expand memory. I have a card from another vendor so I wanted to try the new Western Digital card. Out of the box was a pleasant experience. It comes with a cover for the port end and with it on the card it makes the card look like a tiny external hard drive. It also has a loop that you could install a lanyard for minimizing loss. Pretty cool appearance. I intend to use this as a portable storage to take with me to other locations so this bodes well. As far as performance, it doesn't disappoint. The formatted size for this 1TB card is 920GB, which is respectable considering you never get a complete capacity. Speed wise is comparable to internal storage. And the price was less than the card I purchased before. Overall, I think Western Digital makes solid storage, reliable, and so i would definitely recommend this card. I think for the money, the 1TB card is more or a value than the 512GB card. They don't make a 2TB version, yet. I could see that in the future. 100% recommended over a USB connected storage device for your XB.

The new call of duty took up so much space on my hard drive that I needed to either upgrade my Xbox or buy an expansion memory card. I have an Xbox S series and the new call of duty black ops, six took up nearly all 512 GB of memory. My son told me that Xbox is different an update the most likely occurring 2025 so rather than spending the money on Xbox X with a 2 TB memory I thought I could simply buy a one terabyte hard drive that I could then use in the new Xbox that I purchase. The new Xbox will most likely come with a 2 TB of memory so I thought the one terabyte expansion card would be more than enough to get me by until then. I have only had one issue the other day when I turned it on it said that there was low power to the card and if this persists the contact Xbox. I rebooted my machine and it went away. I thought that the internal expansion card would be better than an external expansion Since it is directly connected to the board and the processing should be faster. I was also considering the room that would be needed for an external and wanted to keep things neat and clutter free underneath my TV. As long as I don’t get the low power warning again I am very happy With my purchase. I’ve had no other issues and they’ve been using it for approximately 2 to 3 months.

Easy to install, just pop in right into the slit on the Xbox and all is good! Great price and super easy pick up after ordering. Perfect to expand the storage space on your series x or S.
