      Have been using the basic WD desktop hard drives for years to store movies, connected to BluRay player. Have not had one fail yet and this drive at 12TB holds a lot of data. Purchased when on sale and it is a great bargain for non-critical applications.

      From what I have seen, these are CMR drives, not SMR. This is good. They do continue to spin after being ejected, at least in my use case. I connect them, a backup job runs, and then automatically unmounts the drive. I wish they would spin down and turn off/down the light so I can visually and/or audibly determine it is safe to physically remove the cable.
