Great for the price. You can't go wrong with this much space, for the price. Just wait for them to go on sale so it makes it worth it.

Have been sporadically using 4X of the 10TB versions for almost 2 years & love them so far. By ‘sporadically’, I mean I will occasionally do a couple data migration projects with 2X by completely filling them up, then cloning with the other two just to be sure & then erasing when complete. I’ve done this about 7 or 8 times in the last ~2 years and haven’t had any issues with them. Just bought this 12TB drive and so far, it appears to be the same quality as the 10’s so I’ll likely be stocking up on more of these in the near future as well. Thanks for the epic deals Best Buy!

Good external hard drive, but found a 14TB WD drive that was a better value on sale so this one went back. Always a good idea to disconnect this drive from your computer when not actively using it to avoid allowing ransomware to access and infect your precious backup data.

Western Digital is a fairly reliable disk drive company. I've always had good luck with their products. My only complaint here is that Best Buy appears to have inaccurate specifications for this drive listed on their website. It's pretty clear after reading a few reviews that a lot of us who purchased this device were expecting to get a drive that had a higher RPM of 7200 (as listed on the site). After my initial & second drive (after exchanging)...both clocked in at 5400 RPM. There's nothing innately wrong with a 5400 RPM drive...but we are purchasing the product with the expectation of getting what we have paid for. It's much like going to the car dealership & purchasing a car with a V-8 engine only to take the car home to find that they stuck a V-6 engine in there instead.

It's been very reliable and fast. Also easy to connect, just plug in the power supply and the usb cable into the computer and its good to go.

Reliable drive, good value at the sale price, and a steady performer. Will be looking for the next generation drives in the same line soon.

wanted an external drive to do backups -- just made it a shared drive so my other systems can use it -- even though it says 12TB, it's closer to 10TB -- no biggie, and at a good price (I think)

We will see how it holds up over time. A cheap external drive like this you should not count on it as the ONLY place where you keep a copy of something precious to you . Its huge anount of storage for cheap as hell. Works fine. Just re-read that previous comment. NEVER count on a single drive for anything whether its top of the line server drive or cheapest refurb external USB drive. Make multiple copies in multiple places. Optical copies on MDisk are good idea.

Need 12TB? Then this is for you. If i could afford to buy more i would. Western Digital continues to put out quality products at affordable prices.

This was a good value when it went onsale. great for making a backup of my storage drive on my system. works exactly as expected.

This was very simple to install and has been very reliable. I have it connected through a dock and use it to support 2 laptops as well as my desktop.

I only buy Western Digital hard drives because of their support. All hardware fails at some point. Western Digital makes RMAs easy. I know they had the SMR issue, but i don't care because of the easy RMAs. These worked perfectly when i shucked them and installed in my Unraid NAS. One thing to note is the screw hole placement on the drive once shucked from the enclosure. It does not have all 3 screw holes like every other drive I've ever seen. It caused some issues with installing in my case.

Got this on sale and it was a true bargain: a quiet 12TB external drive at a terrific price per TB. I connected it to my iMac, reformatted it, and it works like a champ.

Got this because I was tired of cycling through all of my 2TB passports. Now I can fit everything on this guy. Runs quiet and cool.

The external drive was easy to install and fast to set up. Backing up my pictures, music and documents was very fast. The 12TB will give me a large storage capacity that will last a long time.

Terrific capacity and just works as you expect. Should be reliable for years if it performs like other WD external drives that I've used.

Good value for the storage space, I got it on sale. The drive does not have a cooling fan, but it only gets warm to the touch. The drive is made to stand vertical, but I find it can easily topple over so I keep it on its side. I added four rubber feet on the case side do it does not slide around on my desk. The USB cable could be a little longer, its about 36" and it has a non-standard connector on the hard drive end. The only fault is there is no on/off switch, you have to pull the power cable to cut the power to the drive.
