DIY: missing software to run the WD easystore
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this six months ago when it was on sale and only connected it this week. So far the unit meets my needs and I have no complaints about Western Digital products. My complaint -- and the reason I'm rating as 4 rather than 5 stars -- is the lack of information regarding software and setup. To start with, the only in-the-box paperwork is primarily legalise regarding arbitration limitations, with no information about the unit itself. In VERY small print, a WD web-address is provided for downloads. Well, that URL is crap. You won't find what you need there. Instead, go here: https://support-en.wd.com/app/products/product-detail/p/267 for downloads for the drive manual in pdf, utilities setup and backup software. None of this is explained with what came in the box. "Easy" it is not. Also, at this time, you cannot register this product on the WD registration page -- https://support-en.wd.com/app/account/assets/product-registration -- I have no idea why, but will follow up on that later.

Large and Cheap
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a bunch of these and shucked the drive out of them. Cheaper than buying the bare drive alone but it is the exact same drive inside. I use these in my Synology NAS in RAID 6. Works great.

Great drive to hold lots of videos
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have lots of videos for some reason, this will hold it! You can probably run an emby server and use this drive. Probably could plot some chia plots and put it on here too.

Great Hard Drive for the Price!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd hard drive and seems be just as good as the last one. It can be a little slow to load since it is a hard disk but that is to be expected. Easy to use is pretty small sitting on my desk.

Good price, easily schuckable
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not exactly a red drive inside, but for the sale price of these who cares. No idea how they run in the cases they come in. I have a bunch of these, 8tb, 10tb, and 12tb. No fails so far.

Easy to install, large storage, excellent price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best option for high storage volume at a reasonable price. Works well, have had others from WD that are still operational after more than 8 years. Usb 3 interface is fast and works very well.

Fine External Drive. Bad cable impacts performance
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this drive to transfer/backup my substantial photography portfolio since I had outgrown one of my external drives. I needed to copy roughly 6TBs of photos and videos from a WD easystore external USB 3.0 (8TB) to external WD easystore USB 3.0 (12TB - this drive). The best transfer rate I could get was 25mb/s. I searched the web for all the suggested windows settings and formatting options. Still same rate. Took me 26 hours to transfer 2 TB. Frustrating since USB 3.0 can be much faster, and I still had 4tb to go. Was cleaning out desk, and found a USB 3.0 cable that was much thicker than the one on newly purchased WD 12GB easystore. Both of them had blue ends. Even though none of the web searches mentioned quality of 3.0 cable as a significant performance variable for USB3.0, I decided to see if it made a difference. WOW! Just changing one cable on the "writing" drive, my transfer rates increased 7x! Now getting around 140mb/s. I plan on finding another better cable for the 8tb drive to see if I can squeeze out a little more speed on "reading" drive. (it also has a flimsy cable) So drive is fine, WD cut corners on the cable. I guess that is how they are the lower cost drive at this large capacity. But it is still a little frustrating. If people are buying this capacity external HD, they are likely working with large data/files. Why include such a poor cable which so drastically impairs performance?

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far like the drive. Big enough to back up my Drobo & iTunes library/ Fast USB 3.0 and works off of my USB Hub. Will probably partition it for Time Machine & clone copy of my iMac.

lots of storage, especially for the price.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.12 TB provides lots of storage, especially for the price. Will get more. Not as loud as some people say. Will get more. Easy to pick up at the store one hour after making online purchase. Will raise quality to 5 stars after using it for a few years with no break downs.

Good enough
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The actual capacity you can use is about 11tb. I was little surprised about the loss.

Solid drive for internal and external usage
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The drive was shucked which voids the best buy and manufacture warranty for internal use. Drive is in operation 24 hours a day for going on two years with no issues

Room for LOTS of photos!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not ultra-fast but quite good enough, with lots of capacity. So far this seems a good choice for massive storage. It should give me room for a lot of RAW and JPG pix for a few years. Installation was smooth and quick, and I was up and running in just a few minutes.

Massive storage drive.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love how huge the drives are now a days and very affordable. The drive works great and the speeds are pretty much the same to me as any other external drives I have so I have zero issues.
