Used to be affordable, quiet and does the job. The shortage of external drives is not helping the situation.

Excellent value for the money. I have been able to backup a huge amount of data for an offsite back up.

Does not get any better than this price on $ per gig. Write and read speeds are surprising fast for an external drive.

The hard drive is very fast when using usb3.0 and decently quiet. Cables are decent length and the drive feels sturdy.

Its a solid drive for its previous price-point of $309. At $419 it doesn't impress as much, it does its job but it does in plastic, emits vibrations, and only supports USB 3.0.

Tons of storage and great value when on sale. Would buy again

I wrote a review about how terrible my experience was with this drive and how awful customer service was, but magically it seems as though it has been removed... Long story short, the drive worked for a day, then made a clicking noise, and abruptly died. After dealing with tech support via phone, they were extremely unhelpful, and I decided to look into the problem myself. All of that happened within a week of owning the drive. (original review disappeared) I work on computers everyday and do HDD recovery, so after the "support" annoyed me, I investigated the HDD problem myself and it turned out to be a "multi-head failure" non-repairable and it damaged the platters. Seeing as this is a new, sealed helium HDD, and not a regular air-filled HDD, it is not a drive you can easily work on... if you open it, it's done. With that said, this failure occurred after I had already put a few TBs of personal information onto the drive, thus, bringing it to untrustworthy Geek Squad was out of the question. Failing and/or Failed HDD's should only be worked on by professional trusted, recovery techs, and when a drive permanently fails, they should be destroyed to keep information safe. I am greatly disappointed that Best Buy didn't offer to send me a replacement, and I am out the couple hundred dollars this item cost. I may have simply gotten a lemon, but my review is on the drive I received and the awful support.

I shucked this drive and got what I believe is an enterprise drive model number WD140EDGZ

the best! best quality best price. I bought many external hdd and I recommend to buy this hdd.

I love these drives, but you do need to run the WD tool to test the drive before you start to use it. It takes about 30 hours to do it with a drive this size, but it's so worth it as the first one I got was bad.

Very good hard drive. It has good transfer speeds.

This is great tool for backing up photos and other documents. It works flawlessly.

Purchased on sale. So far, so good. Read and write speeds seem acceptable with the 3.0 usb.

I have been using WD for some time. Most of the time I have no problems but I have had some portables go south on me. So far so good for the big boys here.
