Was purchased, placed on my desk, and never touched outside of occasionally being used to backup files. Tried ever fix I've heard of, no dice. Now had TWO of these WD drives do the same thing. Happened about 30 days after I bought, Best Buy told me it was my problem because the return policy is 15 days. WD clearly has inconsistencies in hard drives this size. I would steer clear and find another option.

Fortunately, I had an 8TB on my Xbox One X. So, I switched the one with my Xbox One X, and it was ready in seconds! Super fast!

And, it comes at a reasonable price. However, before I commit this much important data to a device, I gain confidence by testing it using the manufacturer's diagnostic software. It failed. I contacted the manufacturer. They basically said their return response was pretty much held up by the pandemic. I returned the product to the store and they ordered a replacement. The second drive did the same thing. The likelihood of an out of box failure is low. The chances of two in a row is extremely low. I suspect the diagnostic software. I again contacted Seagate. By the time they responded (3 days) I had already returned the drive to the store for a refund. Conclusion. WD products and support are very lacking. Best Buy did everything right and took care of me in spite of the pandemic.

Sadly I received a dud, I took it back and got another dud. I eventually went with another lower capacity model that worked well for my needs.

Works great and have had no problems with it so far. My only issue with the shell is made with glossy plastic which means it'll be scratched up within a week of regular use.
