I had to contact WD customer support. The rep was hard to understand and not very friendly. I had to download installation software from the WD support site. It wasn't that hard, and that fixed it, but I thought it would be easier than that.

However, could not even transfer them from the mac as could not format the drive per the directions and will be returning.

It says I must have shut down incorrectly but no matter how I shut it down it still happens. It take about 90 seconds every time I boot up. Other than that it’s just a slight inconvenience. No loss of saved data at all.
