I know it happens once-in-a-while, and it happened to my drive. I used it once to image my hdd. That was about seven months ago. Worked as expected. Then, I recently pulled it out to repeat -- and nothing. The power LED shines, indicating power, and Windows 10 recognizes the USB as an easystore device. But the disks do not spin. Windows file explorer and Disk Management fail to recognize the drive. Can't initialize it or view partitions. Didn't drop it or abuse it, or run a magnet over it. Just dead. Weird. So, I'm out 80 bucks plus tax. Just bad luck :(

The only reason why I gave this product two stars was because this is the second one I ended purchasing because the first one decided to stop working and apparently was not covered under any type of warranty.

Even though it says it does, we could bot get it to connect to our macbook or get it to move items from pc to mac. Tech support couldn’t even get it it work. Maybe a bad one? When I returned it, the geek squad looked at it and said they get a lot of returns on this for the same issue. I will try another manufacturer.

WD Easystore Backup Device set up easily and Time Machine (Apple) worked well for less than 4 months in home use. Backup never gets past "setup" and time machine reported failure error code 92. Attached WD Easystore a different computer and backup failed, never getting past setup.

First thing is the guy at Best Buy said this is the one you need for an iMac because there is NO setup. WRONG plus it was way more expensive than the one I was looking at.
I could not get it to work so I called the help number and got a lady from India whom I could not understand. She transferred me to her supervisor who eventually took control of my computer. After a few minutes he said everything is copied to their backup. Wrong.
Nothing was and I lost all my info after migrating to another iMac and I had no backup.

It says that it is for Mac or Windows, but Mac owners must reformat the hard drive. Then, it leaves this annoying app on my computer. I wish that I had purchased a Seagate drive.

Supposed to be plug and play. I plug it in, it doesnt play. No software, a tiny little USB cord, and no instructions. But i guess who needs instruction for plug and play. I spent hours. HOURS trying to find the solution on line. Never did. Funny enough, it plug and plays on my Windows 7 machine. So...what do I do, I go buy another. I didnt bother to return the first one cause it was an online purchase, too much hassle. So...I plug in the new one. Guess what.
It doesnt show up on my machine either!!!

Great External Drive

Great fast hard drive. Not as fast as an SSD would be, but speedy nonetheless. I use this as more storage for my Xbox One, and it's pretty simple to set up. Just plug it in to your Windows machine for a bit and then plug it in to the console. If you're on Mac, I've seen complaints that it's much harder to set up, and that you have to download something extra. Instructions are on the side of the box. It comes with a USB 3.0 Micro B cable, and this is just preference, but they could've made it USB-C, since it's a better connector. (Look up micro b USB 3, it's pretty bad). Conclusion, easy to use and set up. Your console will help you through the process.

This item was very reasonably priced, and performed well in its purpose of backing up the many files on my hard drive. It was easy to install and was ready immediately.
