The box said you have to reformat the drive to use with a Mac but the very sparse instructions did not help and all attempts resulted in "error." WD's support site had nothing useful. I returned the first drive and bought another in case it was a defective drive, but got the same result. Took that one back and bought the Seagate equivalent which works exactly as advertised. Very satisfied with the Seagate. Would not recommend the Western Digital.

I brought home the hard drive and I plugged it into my IMAC (that uses a special read/write plugin for NTFS). It took a while to mount. LMOST Every file that I tried to copy to the drive just crapped out at the end off the copy and left me very frustrated. Bottom line, is that I returned the unit and chalked it up to a case of a lemon. I already have almost 20 hard drives from both WD and Seagate and they work flawlessly, so this is confusing.

I returned it, it had to be plugged in , not a USB , plus it was too big for what I was looking for .

I bought this drive because it said it could be reformatted for Mac but it would let me save documents but not edit with FCP

I bought this for my daughter who has a Mac Book laptop & it said it would work for Mac's but it doesn't. It would not format she try everything, we thought it might be defective so I took it back & got another one & it did the same thing so I took it back also. We found a different brand on the Best Buy website that an employee at the store ordered for us & it worked great!

Always working, slows pc down. Just needs to come on when you schedule a back up. Always busy

A piece of garbage. I bought this in July of 2020 it is now December of 2021 and the drive is com[pletely dead. won't show up on any computer lost all my back ups and tons of important and one of documents and files. A year and a half. Garbage

I should have known whe this hard drive arrived with a cable that I had trouble connecting I should have sent it back. Not wanting to deal with the hassle I kept it. Now not even two years in, it died on me and I had to pay $600 to recover all my data stored on it. I deeply regret purchasing this drive

This product do not work well with Mac as it indicates it does. This is the second time I have purchased this back-up hard drive, and the second time it has stoped syncing with Time Machine. I had used WD products for many years without issue until now. This product is going back and I will be trying another brand.

Running on a mac. Everytime my mac puts itself to sleep, this hard drive glitches. It's still shows up as mounted, but all the files are gone. I've followed WD Service's recommendations on sleep settings. I've reformatted twice. Returning to store.

had a WD b-4 never worked right ,bought another and it still has a dificult time backing up files,causes my computer to run very slow as it seems to be always running in the background. the support ,while pretty good, is very difficult to understand \, so communication is poor at best.

Purchased this WD HD for my iMac computer. Problem is, when the computer goes to sleep, the HD stops working and I get a "Back-Up Failure" Message every day. Since I need my iMac to go to sleep to save power and my screen, I have to return this item.

In the process of working on a resolution through Best Buy as this product was barely used yet would no longer transfer files (just kept showing that it was in process for hours if I let it be) and the drive test failed. Bummer!!

I was purchasing this item but didn't work & I was went to Best Buy store to return but store didn't let me return cause they said a policy was over 15 days . I was didn't know that policy @ Best Buy cause the product defect.......

Failed after first use, making me lose all the files I installed and transfered from my desktop!!!!!!!

I bought this product less than two months ago. When plugging it in it lights up for less than 2 seconds and shuts down.

This product had me downloading files, updates, had me googling, YouTubing and every other thing that I can do just to simply store something in it. Too much time and energy wasted. Returned to the store.

people who are 100 times more computer literate than me, cannot get this device to backup computer like it's supposed to. I should have read reviews on it before purchasing. Even Geek Squad people bad mouthed it.

Tried many, many methods to re-format the drive for my mac, but with no success. Sadly, I ended up returning the drive. Maybe there is a secret handshake/process - ? But if so, it is not publicly known.
