Good standard hard drive
|Posted .I have a few of these and they all work very well for my purposes. I have one as a backup drive for Windows 10 File History and the others I use to archive video from my security camera system. Very quiet and they just work. You also have the option to turn off the LED light on the front of the enclosure (some people find the light annoying, so being able to turn it off might be a plus).

Fast, reliable storage
|Posted .Pros mentioned:Ease of use, PriceI needed additional storage for my OTA TV recordings. I added 4-GB of external storage to my PC to free up space on my DVR. Best Buy had a great price and in stock. Pick up at the store. The WD external drive with its USB-3 port is fast and reliable. Awesome and seamless video streaming in HD. I trust Western Digital.

SATA WD40EFRX (WD Red) Bare Drive
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThese are Western Digital Reds with a normal SATA connector when taken apart. The USB "proprietary" connector the other reviewer is talking about is *NOT* this drive (he / she is referring to the 2.5 inch portable drive with the same name). I bought a total of 5 (three from one store, and two from another - due to best buy's non-business purchase limitations) and they all turned out to be Western Digital Reds. The bare drive does show it has a 2 year warranty, but it's description is "WD easystore Desktop" with a model number of "WDBCKA0040HBK" when you do a warranty check on the WD website. All of mine are model: WD40EFRX & have NASware 3.0, with a mfg. date of March 2nd, 2017.

Excellent Mass Storage Drive
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have seen similar drives like this on Amazon but in this case, the WD - easystore® 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - Black is exclusive to Best Buy. I ordered it online and got free shipping. I have the drive formatted to ExFat so it's easily compatible with both Windows 10 (and previous Windows releases) and MacOS. Another advantage of ExFat is that I can store individual files larger than 4GB. I have movies, photos, and miscellaneous files that amount to roughly 3 Terabytes saved on this one drive. That's right Terabytes, not Gigabytes. Honestly, it might have been better to buy a NAS (Network Attached Storage) instead of this in my case for the amount of data that I store and have backed up. Oh well, I still have a thousand Gigabytes left free. With USB 3.0, the file transfer is fast and I can even play video files directly from the external drive. One gripe I have is that this thing needs external power to run through a wall outlet, so it's not good for travelling like using it when on a plane ride. I highly recommend this for people that need fast and large storage drives and stationary setups where having an extra power outlet is not an issue.

Great Unit

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Great Storage! I got this for my eldest son. I got him a gaming computer a while back but can't recall the memory it has. Saw this WD storage and thought he can save games on this thing vs on his computer. I wasn't sure if he was going to use but after two-weeks, I noticed he pulled it out and placed it on his computer desk. Guess he loved it. He didn't give it to me to return it.

Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use2 out of 5If this device is plugged up directly to your home internet router you can access the storage device wirelessly. I recommend encrypting the storage device tho at some point preferably before you connect it to your router unless you are okay with people connected to your home network being able to see the drives contents. If not, you can partition the drive, and set encryption on each partition that will be password protected. This way each person can have a private "locker" for files and stuff on one drive. Im using this with a Nighthawk x6 AC3000 Router that has USB 3.0 and readySHARE features.

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between these new Easystore models and the My Book/Passport models. The regular price for these is more than the MB/PP yet these look like the previous generation of the MB/PP. What is the difference and which would be better?
Asked by Confused.
- A:Answer I asked the manufacturer the same question with regards to the portable models. Their answer was that the Easystore does not have encryption and password protections, whereas the My Passports do; and has a 2 year warranty.

Q: QuestionWill this work on USB 2.0? Not sure if I have any 3.0 USBs I have one or two WD external drives in my junk drawer that stopped working years ago , so not sure how well another WD drive would hold up. Anyone had troubles with this one failing?
Asked by Robinhood.
- A:Answer Hello Robinhood, yes it will work fine with USB 2.0 ports (albeit a wee slower but the average person using older tech wouldn't notice the difference anyways). I actually have it hooked up to an older micro-desktop that I've tricked out to serve as a backup and tertiary storage hub and no problems with speed upon access or writing files. Re: WD reliability, the HD playing field amongst the brands has become fairly level over the past few years. If you read up you will find the different brands all source from the same 3 manufacturers. All have chances to fail and unless you want to put out $$$ for tippy top of the line, just make sure you keep the firmware updated, run occasional diagnostics, and keep 2 *different* units as backup. (Never buy 2 HDs from same brand at same time - you want different batches, different manufactured times, so as to avoid 2 lemons from same batch). Hope this helps :)

Q: QuestionI'm not able to drag and drop files from one hard drive into the easystore drive. I'm on a MAC using the latest OS. Insight into this matter is much appreciated. Thanks.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Maybe a silly question, but did you format the drive as Mac journaled extended or leave as NTFS. If NTFS then you will need something like Tuxera NTFS in order to transfer files.

Q: QuestionHi! Using the WD easystore on my ps4. Is it ok to just let it plugged all the time or should I unplug it from the console when the console is off? Or anything else?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Mine is left plugged in all the time. When I turn the computer off the easy drive shuts down also.

Q: QuestionIs this capable of simply dragging and dropping certain files (photos & videos) into it? If yes, how?
Asked by Nick.
- A:Answer Like any other drive it will show up as a different drive letter in windows and a different drive name in mac. Just open a window to that drive and drag and drop files into it.

Q: QuestionCan this be hooked up to an Arlo Pro base station and used as continous local storage, and if the base station is hooked up to WiFi/router can the drive be accessed remotely to view files?
Asked by Mandam8692.
- A:Answer I have never used a Arlo Pro base so I am not sure about that, but I currently use it over Wi-Fi to view thousands of movies and it works perfectly. I connected it directly to the router. I can also use it for storage if I need to via the network. Leo
