I needed additional storage for my OTA TV recordings. I added 4-GB of external storage to my PC to free up space on my DVR.
Best Buy had a great price and in stock. Pick up at the store.
The WD external drive with its USB-3 port is fast and reliable. Awesome and seamless video streaming in HD.
I trust Western Digital.

It's nowhere as fast as the internal SATA drives but it's 4x their capacity and it's so handy for archiving. I put all my photos music snd videos on it. For the price it's a great buy.

I have a few of these and they all work very well for my purposes. I have one as a backup drive for Windows 10 File History and the others I use to archive video from my security camera system. Very quiet and they just work. You also have the option to turn off the LED light on the front of the enclosure (some people find the light annoying, so being able to turn it off might be a plus).

Purchased this on sale for a great price. I connected it to my XB1X and transferred all of my games to it. They load just as fast as loading from the internal hard drive. I’m very happy with it.

Great drive, very affordable, lots of room though not really portable because it needs to be plugged into the wall for power

Unable to back up file - "not enough space"

After several attempts, I may have to return this drive as the included backup software simply doesn't work. Before purchasing this, just google: “Unable to back up files to My Passport because there is not enough space”. This is a massive issue.
I cannot comment otherwise on performance as I am struggling to get this to work despite different backup plans and formats. It has a decent price, but you lose that advantage in 1) it not working and 2) the time spent getting it to work.
I've opened a ticket with WD, but as I have not heard back, I will return this to BB I'm afraid.

PS4 Expanded

I bought this with the sole purpose of expanding my PS4. I soon discovered that a 500GB drive for PS4 is insufficient if you have a tendency not to delete games you played. At most I think I had 8 games with various GB needs. The time soon came to where what can I delete and not miss to load my latest game. Ugh... after 2-4 times of this I decided I needed to inflate my storage capacity. After little research, I found this drive in addition to finding at an awesome price. I pulled the trigger and am pleased with the results. The only thing I noticed was the sound of the drive as it is active. Not terribly loud but noticeable. Not a deal breaker at all. What really made this a nice purchase was the ease of installation. I followed the guidelines via the PS set up. Only took a few moments and nearly instant 4TB of more storage... Woohoo!

Just what I needed to compliment my Xbox One X

I am very satisfied with this product. Keep in mind it is not a portable device. It must be plugged into an outlet. This doesn't bother me. I'm not an expert, but I suspect it may perform better not relying solely on a USB cable for powder. 4 TB of storage is great and connecting to the Xbox One X was really simple. Just plug it in and the Xbox will recognize the hard drive and prompt you to format the hard drive. Done in seconds. The unit isn't very large and is attractive in appearance. Looks good next to the Xbox. Most important to me is the ability to run games directly from the external hard drive. I have run Battle Field 4, Battlefield 1, and Halo 5 including multiplayer directly from the hard drive and have compared it to the performance running from the built in Xbox One X hard drive. They look and play the same. No issues. Down load speeds and transferring games between drives seem pretty reasonable. Get this one sale if you can and you can't go wrong.

I have seen similar drives like this on Amazon but in this case, the WD - easystore® 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - Black is exclusive to Best Buy. I ordered it online and got free shipping. I have the drive formatted to ExFat so it's easily compatible with both Windows 10 (and previous Windows releases) and MacOS. Another advantage of ExFat is that I can store individual files larger than 4GB. I have movies, photos, and miscellaneous files that amount to roughly 3 Terabytes saved on this one drive. That's right Terabytes, not Gigabytes. Honestly, it might have been better to buy a NAS (Network Attached Storage) instead of this in my case for the amount of data that I store and have backed up. Oh well, I still have a thousand Gigabytes left free. With USB 3.0, the file transfer is fast and I can even play video files directly from the external drive. One gripe I have is that this thing needs external power to run through a wall outlet, so it's not good for travelling like using it when on a plane ride. I highly recommend this for people that need fast and large storage drives and stationary setups where having an extra power outlet is not an issue.

I have always loved Western Digital internal drives and this was my first external drive purchase. I needed to back up years of files in preparation of a new PC purchase and working from home. With the USB 3.0 connection it took a lot less time to back everything up than I though it would. It is basically plug and play and very intuitive with simple drop n drag but software is included for scheduled backup setup. At $75 on sale it was a steal. Highly recommended.

Prices fluctuate like crazy on hard drives, but I bought this at a fantastic price. I'm using it as my main storage for my iMac (the OS is on SSD) running through USB 3.0. It's fast, but it is noisy and does take a few seconds to start up from sleep. Power Cord is nice and long, the wall adapter is slim so it fits on a power strip nicely and it comes with the USB cable in the box.
Mechanical drives are very outdated but until the price of SSD's drop dramatically we are stuck using these massive disks to storage large amount of data.

This was a good price for a 4TB USB 3.0 hard drive. Plenty of storage space, good read/write speeds, and a dependable brand. Nice form factor and easy to use backup software included.

I am in music production, so I need lots of memory to store all of the production files. This does the trick. I bought a 1TB WD Easy Store back in 2011 and it still works great! That gave me the confidence to buy this 4TB WD Easy Store. This is my 4th unit and I now have a total of 13TB connected to my Mac Pro.

I've had a number of WD external hard drives, but never one with this large capacity. I use it to back-up my data drive, as I had one HD crash a couple of years ago, which taught me to back-up, back-up, back-up. This 4TB will hold at least four back-up events, which is really handy. It took only a couple of minutes to set up, which included removing the HD from its packaging. I've found WD makes a consistently excellent product, and highly recommend this HD.

As we all know games now a days can be purchased digitally and every pretty much has to be installed on a hard drive to run. As an avid gamer I needed more space than my 500GB hard drive could provide. With a new console coming out for xbox and 4k attributes being a reality for download soon I knew I needed more space.
The drive works perfectly with my xbox one with plenty of room to spare on the drive. I've owned it for a little over 1 month now and I didn't have an issue setting it up or using it.
Would recommend to anybody looking for extra space for their games.

This is a true plug and play device. I attached it to my Xbox One X for the additional game storage. Plugged it in, Xbox recognized it, formatted it automatically (asking my permission first), and now most of my older games that I play less often are stored on this, leaving my more commonly played games on the internal Xbox drive. Good product.
