I have had a couple fail in the last year. Also be careful with the new file system and this drive on new iMacs. I would probably go Seagate in the future.

Worked great at first. Bought in 2017. Used for first time in 2018. Stayed in box whole time never opened until use. Then out of the blue reformats and deletes everything saved. Buyer beware! Don't save important data or photos, unless you have back up.

From what I am reading this is supposedly a Red drive, but I am not 100% sure yet. People report TLER (error recovery) is the same as the Red drives so it will not cause issues with RAID. I did not verify. However, this drive did had the same firmware as my true Red 8TB drives. My drive has the 256MB cache and was maid in Thailand. I installed this in a Synology and RAID is rebuilding. Hopefully it will work for years like all my other WD Red drives. I have never had a failure at home and I have 24 running 24/7. I even have some old 3TB drives with over 36,000 hours (4.16 years non-stop). I gave four stars because I would feel better if it were just a normal labeled Red drive.

Be prepared to wait 30 seconds to 1 minute every time you want to select any files from this drive (when using a usb 3 port). It is by far the slowest drive I've used.

This drive was by far the best deal per TB when I bought it in late 2017. The cost was similar to 4tb drives half its size. 8TB WD drives have a good reputation for reliability. It is quiet and has a good transfer rate. Like almost everyone else reviewing this, I recommend it.
