This external drive works as advertised, but if used with a PC and allowed to remain connected via its USB cable, the unit may not allow your computer to boot upon a fresh startup. Some online research revealed that a re-format of the drive to an NTFS file system should solve the problem; however, it would be helpful if Western Digital would incorporate a solution into these drives that keeps this issue from occurring.

After having 2 Seagate Slim drives fail in 2 years, I decided to go for a different brand and a more stationary hard drive for my photographs. I'm hoping that this drive lasts longer. I have over 19000 RAW files on this drive and it's only a quarter full. So far I'm happy with the more solid feeling build and the extra capacity.

Purchased this to keep my computer backed up with free software included. Made a full backup and now every hour an incremental backup will be performed which means only what changed since last backup. This will extend life of HD and quicker backup and only backing up Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos. If you use Internet Explorer then backup favorite folder as well.
