Q: DO THE MY BOOK HAVE LEDS ON IT BECAUSE I DO NOT NEED ANY MORE LEDS?
A: No, there are no leds on this one. Only issue is when I first hooked it up, because of the lack of led's I wasn't sure if it was working properly. I have the 4TB model and I don't know if any of the other models have led's or not.
A: Yes. I have mine connected to my router via an Ethernet cable, but there is also a USB port which can be connected as well. It works great through my router and I can access it with any of my network devices.

Q: Do I have to reformat this drive to use it with a iMac?
A: I didn't have to reformat it. I use it as my mac time machine automatic back up drive.
A: I have a 1 TB drive that is at least 5 years old, still chugging along. I only plug it in and use it when needed. the key to not messing it up is to make sure you dismount it or shut down the computer before unplugging it from the USB. click the ^ next to your volume/network icons and choose the little USB looking Icon. safely remove hardware and eject media. choose your drive and do not unplug it until it dismounts.
Q: How long is the data cable that comes with this? Can it be operated laying on its side?
A: Cable is about 3 foot. Can be operated on its side. But, not recommended due heat vents are located top and bottom.
