Q: Will this work with OS X 10.8.5?
A: This item works with Mac operating systems.
Q: Will this HD allow file retrieval from locations outside of your home network?
A: This is primarily used as a local device. Through advanced networking it's possible to connect to remotely such as setting up a VPN. If you're looking for a device that's easily accessible remotely I'd go with the WD My Cloud. I have both devices and have setup an incremental backup with the two units and they work easily together.
Q: Has anyone shelled one of these lately to see if it still contains a WD Red Drive?
A: I have, It contained a Green Helium drive.
Q: Will this drive work with a XBOX One?!
A: Sure will!!! That's where I have mine and it's glorious. No more fiddling around with piddly 32gb flash drives and 500 gb portable externals trying to hold all my games. Now if I could only find time to play them all.
A: The above drive has a 3 year warranty where the other one (EasyStore) only has a 2 year warranty.
A: The drive is factory formated to Windows NTFS. You may need to format it with your computers macOS disk utility program to make it fully compatible with your system (read/write). If your intention is to use it for cross platform (mac/windows) storage, you will need to have it formated to fat32. If you format to macOS you wont be able to right files to it from the Windows platform. If you leave it formated to NTFS you wont be able to right macOS files to it. The drive is enormous so ideally you can partition it with macOS disk utility and have 3 partitions (macOS, fat32 & NTFS) one of each.
A: External drives will not make your computer do anything faster! External Hard Drives, or HD, are for backup and or if you need to extend the storage size of your existing computer/device. If your computer has USB3, it will perform MUCH FASTER than the older USB2 or USB 1.1 or older versions! BUT it will not perform as fast as an internal HD! Here is the reason: The internal HD has interface called SATA and the data can flow much faster than using the USB port. USB port has to travel through several components, before the data reaches the internal hardware, that is why it is little slower than SATA interface. Also, remember to unplug the USB device as soon as you aren't using the external HD, just in case your computer gets a virus! The virus will spread to every device your computer has a connection to! In my profession I see too many unhappy people, who did not backup their data to external the HD (Hard Drive) ! Don't bee one of these unhappy people yourself!
Q: Is it compatible with Windows 11?
A: Yes it is ..

Fantastic storage for the price, small enough form-factor to fit nicely on my desk.

I originally bought a 8 TB external that I believed would work with the PS4 Pro unfortunately that was not the case. So figured I would try this out, a employee recommended this unit that he has on his PS4 Pro and it worked like a charm. Went home hooked it up to the back USB port on PS4 Pro connected it to the External Hard Drive, let it sit for a sec then plugged in the power for the external hard drive (yes, this external hard drive needs power adapter to work) and boom. After about 1 minute or 2 the PS4 Pro recognized it, so I was already impressed, last one I tried didn’t even recognize it after about 10 minutes or so. After the message appeared in top left (external hard drive detected) (give or take message being a little off on wording I suppose). Then I went through proper setting via PlayStation website (super easy) and let the PS4 Pro format the drive to work. Now I can say I have a 8TB hard drive on it and room for all the games I need. Make sure your PlayStation is up to date, version 6.20 is what mine is on. Thanks WD, made my night. Game on friends!

Been great so far. I only wish there was a power switch. I feel like HDDs last longer when turned on and off. Really I have had many many Western Digital Drives over the past 25 years and they are the most reliable. I have only had 1 drive out of about 75 over time go bad. Just wish I could turn it off when its not in use. It likes to move even when the computer is off.
