Small and quiet but has a large capacity. Good price and availability make this device a must-have with larger capacity to store backups and photos along with other important data. A second copy of your data makes it more secure.

Excellent choice for desktop users. Easy to set up the way you want and works quickly. Ive had other, smaller sized version of this for the past 8 years and the first on still works great. Never had any problems whatsoever.

I have several WD external hard drives. I use these to supplement my iMac storage and provide full Photo Library and System back-up. I have found the WD Hard Drives to be very functional and reliable. Very easy to install, set-up and use.

I am completely satisfied with the Drive. I thought form a review I read, I could use it as a Network drive. I tried what someone posted and it did not get recognized by my system. An old drive I used to have had an on/off switch. I could really use something like that. I use this drive as a backup for my videos, photos and music. So it is not needed often. Have a Great Day

I previously had a 3TB WD external hard drive which i easily filled with my media files and never had any issues so I'm upgrading to this 4TB one. Love this HD 'cause they're easy to install and very friendly to use, I would recommend this great product to my friends.

I bought this WD 4TB drive to replace an older (quite old) Seagate. No problems with the Seagate (working fine but it was getting old) but have been very satisfied with other WD drives I own. Presently using it to store photos to keep my laptop PC drive free for documents. Not using WD encryption or backup program (presently using SyncBack) but will try WD's backup soon to see if it fills my needs. My other WD drives have been very reliable, Haven't tried any larger capacity drives but may have to for my video files. For safety, I have 2 other external WD drives for backup and may look into a RAID array later. Right now I'm quite satisfied with independent multiple backup drives. Always like to buy them when they're on sale, of course.

This was intended to be my offline external backup system due to the security issues affecting my computer over the past month or so. With 4TB I can backup the pc and safely store family photos and genealogical information without fear that someone has hacked my account and duplicated some pdf files and adding a surprise for me the next time I open it. It’s encrypted on its own and allows me to use passwords both on files and the drive separately. Now that my pc, family documents and games are backed up there, I can disconnect the drive and store it for another day. Maintaining a clean system restore point as needed. I find it very helpful in conjunction with other security applications.

I've only used WD My Book external drives for years. They are very reliable for a few years but after that not so much. The 2 TB I'd been using was causing my desktop to slow down or even hang because of problems communicating with the external drive. I bought this drive on sale for slightly more than a 3TB and it's worked great. I wish it had an activity light on it but I guess you just have to trust that it's on and doing its job. The 2TB drive that I thought was done is now connected to my laptop and amazingly still working just fine. That just goes to show that WD My Book external drives are truly workhorses that give you years of use. I installed the WD Software bundled with the drive but I chose to not have it start with Windows. It just got in the way, and I don't need the backup feature with it.

The WD 4TB External Drive was easy to setup and more room than you probably would ever use. I primarily purchased it to keep my Mirror Image on in the event my system ever crashed and the hard drive was unrecoverable. Had that happen once and lost a lot of personal data and photos.

The 4TB WD My Book is a great external hard drive. The device has plenty of space for storing personal files and is easy to use and set up. Just plug into your computer and it is ready to use. The cost is very reasonable for this hardware, would highly recommend.
