I purchased this hard drive to act as a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. I have it connected directly to my router and it works great!! Had to make a few changes in the router to get them to play well together but once that was done it's like I have my own server:)

I purchased this a few weeks ago and I am reasonably pleased. I wish it had both an ethernet port and a usb port but I can settle for one. My only issue is that documentation is confusing for the buyer. I chose this model among several because it is similar to the one that I already have. That drive still works but I need more space.

Bought this drive to back up all of my photos and videos. Works great and is fast. I leave this drive connected to my desktop all of the time.

I have been using this drive for a few years now and I love it. It keeps all of my I formation safe. I have had no issues with the drive and I'm planning to get a second one I like it so much.

I replaced a 5-year old Seagate GoFlex Desk with this WD MyBook 4TB drive. Reformatted it in Disk Utility for Mac OS X Sierra with no problems. The drive speed is more than adequate for what I use it for -- my iTunes music library and my Photos library. It is louder than the Seagate. However, the case design appears to let air flow a lot better.

This works great with my MacBook Pro, after re-formatting it. Never had an issue, through multiple power outages and "you should have ejected that drive first" warnings in macOS. It's an incredible value for the size and price.

This drive is faster than it's non-powered counterpart for copying over large amounts of data. Also, loved that I could purchase it in one state and have it picked up at Best Buy in another that same day! Faster than ordering on line!!!

The external drive works as advertised. Data loads quickly and easily. The drawback is the lack of documentation. Accessing the WD site did not easily provide clear information. I bought it on sale for about $100, so I thought it was a good value.

This is a great external drive. I got it on sale when it was around $80 which puts it at $20/tb which is pretty good! It's also pretty fast with transferring big files, so definitely recommend for those who are into videography/photography.-

I bought two My Books, one from Tiger Direct and the second from Best Buy. the first WD My Book stopped working shortly after the warranty on it expired. The drive stopped spinning and started making noise after about four years of constant use. I remained connected to a PC and did not carry move it anywhere. The second My Book Drive died under warranty a little over one year after purchase. Although it sounded like the drive was spinning, the failed to be recognized by any PC saying it needed to be initialized, although that option was no longer available. That drive was 80 percent full of personal data that was lost except for important data that was luckily backed-up. I could have been be a bad circuit board, maybe. WD does offer a decent 5 year warranty. They also claim data privacy protection and security in their written policy. I will get a replacement under warranty but loathe the hours of lost work due to two device failures. I am awaiting a replacement drive and thankful my data will be wiped clean and remain secure (hopefully). Crossing my fingers. Maybe the third time will be the charm fro the Western Digital My Book.

Reasonably priced drive that performs as expected.

This Western Digital HDD was exactly what I hoped it would be - it looks good, was easy to install, and has fast file transfer. It replaces an off-brand hard drive that failed within months of installation. I'm delighted with this WD drive!

This is a good back up hard drive and storage solution.

There is no indicator light to show machine is on. Directions for operation are skimpy. In very small print, user is told the progress of the back up session. I finally figured it out, but it was frustrating.
