Thought this would be simple "plug and play" process and my critical data would be safe and secure. Did not happen that way. User manual information is pretty useless. I still don't have a complete backup of my critical files (which aren't that extensive except for photos). There are no lights on the drive so you really don't know if it is working. The software provided gives minimal information about the status of the backup and its completion. It tells you with a symbol that there was an issue but still have not found how to determine what the issue was and how to fix it. I have corresponded with support at WD but they are slow to respond and give you pretty much chapter and verse from the useless user manual instructions.

The WD My Book 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive is perfect for use as a secondary hard drive for PC and Mac. I’m using it for both my PC and my MacBook Pro for backups and accessing files. It’s size and portability is ideal for multiple use purposes.

I have had no problems with my hard drive. I use it with my PS4. I have transferred my games to and from the hd. It doesn't produce any noticeable noise. Also, I have played games directly from the hard drive with no slowdown.

Seems to do the job, but they are LOUD! That is our only complaint. We purchased 2, one for each of our computers. Fairly easy to set up, but yes...Loud. Always making grinding machine noises so that is annoying.

So far, the drive has performed without a hitch. Read and write performance seems to be fast in real world usage — no tests done though — and unlike my older Toshiba 1gb external drive, it doesn't take a long time to resume from inactivity. Only had for a couple months, but very satisfied to this point.

Use with the USB port of a router directly (if exists), or directly connected to a computer, with or without encryption - lot of versatility. Did not encounter any issue related to expected functionality. Will buy the same again if need be.

I purchased this for my Xbox one and it works great.

Does a great job . Had some of my friends buy it to.

This is the 3rd WD My Book storage unit I’ve bought for personal use. Western Digital produces a quality product that is consistent in its operation. I know what I’m getting with this product and they deliver what I want every time.

Works great for Time Machine backups for my Mac. Some reviews said it was loud, but I don’t think it’s any louder than any of the previous external drives I’ve owned.

Set up was fast. Has a lot of memory for the price.

Have used My Book in the past with great results .

It's great & serves its purpose for gaming storage

I had some problems getting it to connect to my Mac at first. It took quite a bit of reformatting for it to work. However, after the initial problem, it's working great. I'm using this for backing up personal files like documents, photos, videos.

The unit I picked up from the (Sugar Land) store was apparently defective, & it was the last one. The next day I went to the Beechnut store & got a replacement. As with all the previous units I've purchased there's been no problems.

Fast file transfer, great product so far! Did have to format as my file recovery did not recognize entire partition.

I bought this storage device for my Xbox One and have had absolutely no issues with it. The USB 3.0 speed is extremely fast and the large storage size allows me to store PLENTY of games. I would definitely recommend it!

I purchased to use as a backup drive for my NAS. Just plugged it in and it does the job. Nothing really to set up on this drive. My backups complete much faster than with my previous device (older WD external drive).

Use it to convert all my DVD’s to digital. Have over a thousand dvd’s and haven’t put a dent in the capacity. Love it.

So far good external hard drive, however, I had to reformat from exFat to NTFS. I am saving smaller size files and exFat had too much unused space, due to the cluster size.
