My husband bought this to back up his work. It was working extremely well until it completely stopped working. We searched online and many said that it happens often and might need a new cable, my husband bought a second hard drive hoping the cord would do the trick, but it didn't. Luckily he double backs up everything he has and didn't lose anything, but if he didn't back up everything he would have been having a huge dilemma with his work. I highly recommend if you choose the my book as your hard drive to have a second way of backing up your files and not rely fully on this my book. When it is working, it works well and stores a ton of data. I may have just gotten a bad unit at first, but from my google search, its more likely its just normal wear to the hard drive over prolonged usage.

Love this drive with USB 3.0. I use it for backing up my home server and it's file transfer performance is superb. I am not using any of the software it came with so I can't speak to that but for straight file transfers it gets the job done.

I purchased this drive to use as a Time Machine backup for my iMac. So far so good. While the initial backup took awhile (my iMac only has USB2 ports), it seems to be functioning perfectly for what I'm asking it to do.

Sure wish it wasn't an external drive, but it does its job satisfactory.

I just set it up and it does the rest its backed up all my photos I am a professional photographer and save all my shoots to it then I work with the pictures by transferring them to cpu the after save back to ut

I did a lot of research and math figuring out which HD I needed. I just multiplied by 3 of what I had in storage and settled on this one. Transfer rates are good - about 150-160 mbps so I can't complain.

This device does what is supposed to do. easy to use.

I use WD externals more than any other brand. I used to use Seagates but they were justbad. Just a little bump and you lose data. I haven't had the issue since I switched over to WD drives.

formatted it and use it as an external for my ps4.

I've been a fan of WD internal and external drives for decades and this unit does not disappoint. Great value for the price from a brand I trust for my mission critical data.

Seems to work fine - good transfer rate. I'm using it for longterm backup so it's really impossible to say at this point if it lasts 5 years.

Needed to consalidate my photos and was running out of space. I prefer western digital drives have had very good luck with them.

I've been buying WD hard drives, and they always perform. USB 3.0 is as fast as advertised. Another great product.

I have been using these to back up movies and tv shows. They are the best.

I love this drive. It reads at a decent speed. The only thing I wish it had was a lightning port for Mac so that the data read speeds were faster for my server.

Great for storing music and videos also using it as a OS and file backup.
