A: I believe the answer is no. I'm not 100% sure but when I originally hooked it up to a power strip. My Xbox one wasn't recognizing it and that's when I noticed that I had accidently switched off the power strip. The internals run at a faster speed than a passport style external hardrive therefore it needs the power to tun it and that just can't be achieved with just the USB.

A: This drive only runs at 5400 rpms. Western Digital does have other drives that run at 7200 but the price will be higher. One good rule of thumb when looking at these external drives (if it does not say 7200 rpm in the description then it most likely has a 5400 rpm drive inside).
