Easy to use and set up - backs up all of my devices

This hard drive works great. It is very easy to set up.

I only gave this 3 stars because I had weird glitch with mine. Months after using this all of a sudden it crashed and lost everything. I spent 3 days getting it to work right again. I have no clue the reason for the crash. No storms, nothing happened. I just dont know.

It is a good price point for a 8TB external USB drive.

I prefer Seagate drives but BestBuy did not have any in stock. The WD worked okay to archive my 4k video files but they are too slow to work from. They need to be reformatted for Mac which was not a simple process. It took a couple of tries to find the right sequence.

We bought this Hard Drive to put all our files from other hard drives so it will be on one drive ....after transferring files the hard drive just quit and the files were lost ...we took this back and it was within the 30 days and exchanged it for another ...well the next one was also bad with loud clicking ....I was thankful I took out the warranty as we had to take this one back also ....we have now bought a different hard drive and have good luck with this one ....I would not recommend buying this one as we lost a lot of files that can't be replaced .

Good but still having issues when device is connected to computer. Boot process gets locked up when usb hdd is connected. Talked with tech support who couldnt figure it out (even though motherboard isnt setup to boot from usb).

It's possible that it didn't like my previous external hard drive but it wasn't easy to set up. The website is not user friendly for a non-techno person. And getting feedback from a real person isn't easy.

You can only return in 14 days, it was dead out of the box with IO errors

I purchased a Western digital 8TB External drive to use as "Time Machine" backup drive with my iMac computer. After only three days I received a message stating "Time Machine Failed. Could not create backup folder.". I contacted Apple support and after multiple tech support sessions, it was suggested that the internal controller in the WD drive could be the probable cause. I reformatted the drive, erased the drive, REINSTALLED Mac OS High Sierra, all with no solution to the problem. I was told to return the drive to Best Buy and exchange it for a new drive, which I did. AGAIN, after only two days, the same error message began to appear. I then contacted Western Digital, and AGAIN the tech support rep had me erase all the data on the drive and reformat it again. The Time machine backup failed again with the same error message. I was told that my support ticket would be escalated to second tier support, and that I would be contacted by phone within 24 to 48 hours. I received an eMail from WD, stating that I had not replied to an eMail regarding my support ticket, and that the ticket would be closed if I did not reply. I did NOT receive a phone call, as I was initially told, so I contacted WD technical support again. Once again, the tech told me to erase the drive and reformat it. OK ... so I did. After two more days, the drive failed to back up Time Machine. Now I am back on the phone with WD tech support. A G A I N I am told that the ticket will be forwarded to level THREE support, and that I would be receiving a phone call ( YES A PHONE CALL) within another 24 to 48 hours. It has passed the second 48 hour period, and NO PHONE call, but I did receive another eMail stating that I had not responded to an earlier eMail set to me regarding this support ticket. IF I do not heard from Western Digital by 5 PM Friday February 23rd, I will return the second drive to Best Buy, and NEVER buy another Western Digital product again. So far, Western Digital has a very poor customer service rating.

I backed up everything to this harddrive and it corrupted a month later. totally lost everything and could not be recovered. if you want to throw your money in the toilet and lose all of your data buy this hard drive!
