it has a huge capacity! i love it. also, it has no issues at all. theres no indicator light at the front but thats fine. I dont need it really. Ill buy another one when i need one. THanks. WD is way better than seagate. ive had many wd drives before and never had any issues. seagates always gave me trouble.

Works as advertised

This is simple - works flawlessly - have another 8 TB My Book that has worked well for over a year. I'm just using this as a hard drive and not backing anything up. Did not test any installed software. I was lucky to get this for around $130 on sale. Great value.

I don't recommend this product if you are the multitasking type of user. Firstly, the only way this product works is if you plug in both connections (one that looks like a old Motorola Droid charger and the other connection looks like a Samsung Note charger). Due to this product having two chords instead of one like SanDisk has in order for their products to work, I'm constantly tripping over it and have even dropped my laptop three times now (lucky for me it was at couch level so it didn't do too much damage to my laptop but still there is absolutely no need for two chords to be plugged in at the same time in order for the product to run SMH). It also effects your computer startup while plugged into your computer during the start up (the result you're going to get is as if your start up froze, you'll get that continuous wheel if you own a mac or downloading like bar if you own a PC. The only way around this is if you wait until your computer start up is finished and then plug in the two chords). It also isn't user friendly in the sense that it will freeze your computer or Internet or both when you're on internet especially if you have multiple windows or programs up (the result you get is finding out that the programs or pages that you are running have the "Not Responding" error message located next to your program(s) name or page(s) name on the same bar where you can exit out of your program. When this happens the only way around this without having to shut down your computer and loose your work is if you press Ctrl, atl, del in order to start your task manager and get out of the windows you're in only to have to reopen them and hopefully not have to do this again for a while, but sometimes this method doesn't even work. If it doesn't work then the last resort is you're forced to completely exit out of everything that's running including the work you're doing such as a school essay which isn't good if you haven't saved that essay or even if you have and you open it up again, you will only see the last time it saved so regardless you lost your work one way or another). In addition this product is ridiculously loud even when you're not using it but it's still plugged in (I would be on internet and at times hear the product. It's like the sound a computer makes when it's over working and starting to heat up, as if like the fan of the product is overworking so it doesn't overheat kind of sound I guess??? Idk it's difficult to explain but it definitely is the sound of a fan of some sort). Lastly, the directions of how to take care of the product (such as the temperature it can be in, what kind of plugs it shouldn't be in, the voltages the product can't handle, etc, etc) is written on a 2"X2" paper and the words are so small that even a person like myself who has 20/20 vision can't see it unless they use a magnify glass and even then it's still difficult to see. The directions (5"x8" about pamphlet) of how to use the product are also useless imo.
The only pros to this product is it's easy to transfer your files into and you don't need to format it, that is if you're a PC owner. I'm not sure if this is the case with Mac users sorry.
As stated before I definitely do not recommend this product especially to multitasking type of users.

solid, well-priced start to a backup system

while its still not a robust, professional-grade backup system, its a great entry point for someone who needs extra storage or a quick and cheap way to get their important files backed up.

Noisy and Erratic Speed

This is sitting next to a seagate 5tb 3.5 drive that you can hear run at about 3 feet and can barely hear seeking. This drive is fairly quiet when not in use, but let it seek and you can hear it in the hallway leading to my office. Sounds like a server room. Also, writing speed is very erratic. Fast then stops makes a ton of noise for 15 minutes then takes off again. Too loud for long term backup and too erratic for daily use.

Broke in a few months

This was my newest WD external hard drive and broke in less than half a year without any trauma and I lost all data and had to pay over 2 thousand dollars for recovery. I would avoid this at all costs and definitely back up all of your data. My other WD external hard drives (easystore rather than My Book) are older and still functional. Felt too unsafe to store data, completely unreliable and a waste of money.

Worst drive I ever had

This lasted 6 months and then completely failed. Also it would always disconnect from the computer, forcing you to reconnect a couple times per day, Trust me I tried different cables, firmware updates, called support, etc.
Finally failed 6 months later, can't mount it or access the data. Called support and they referred me to a third party data recovery company that charges +$1200, they just said the disk failed- ha-ha.
Don't buy it, is totally unstable and will fail.

I bought this drive. Plugged it into windows 10 computer, but it wouldn't recognize it. Downloaded drivers. That didn't help; Tried the same on a very new PC win 10 and it didn't work there either. Went to product website for assistance. WD realliy doesn't offer technical support and their knowledge database doesn't provide answers. I will return this to the store and buy another product from a different manufacturer. These things should be simple and work and there should be customer support.

Only worked for a few days, then I was unable to get this device to connect to my network. This is by far the worse purchase I've made from Best Buy getting support was even worse.

I had a terrible time getting this hard drive to communicate with mac or pc. Within months much of my data was corrupted and the warranty can only offer you another mediocre hard drive
