I LOVED my WD MyCloud, but I don’t know why they stopped supporting the older WD MyBook’s. Those were great too. The only reason why I purchased this was because after something like 8 years, they stopped supporting the older cloud drives.

We have been purchasing these devices as storage for some of our windows server backups. This has been a stable and reliable platform for us.

This is a well-built, easy to use hard drive without the extra frills that most come with. I've used WD drives in the past, and it still amazes me that the price of them have come down so far in recent years- I remember spending $100 on a 500gb drive and thinking it was more than I'd need!

Needed a secondary location for my backups and this external unit was just what I needed. Plenty of storage for months worth of backups.

This drive is great for all my storage needs. I initially had to change the exFat format to NTFS to take full advantage of the 8TB capacity, but that was the only issue I had. The drive is performing the way it should and I am very happy with my purchase and would buy another anytime.

I have only had this drive for a few weeks but so far, it appears to be a very good external hard drive. My only complaint is that it is noisy when on.

Great affordable external hard drive! Whenever I need more storage, Western Digital is the brand I always go to! Dependable, affordable storage solution for not a lot of money.

My Book 8TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - Black is a no frills external hard drive that just works. I'm using it to store and stream music and movies from a 2012 mac mini. One thing that I had to do was to download the WD software and disable the auto sleep feature on the hard drive for it to work with my setup.

Works as intended and the price was right. Plenty of memory and easy to use. Comes ready to use out of the box and works perfectly for Apple/Mac users. No frills, just a solid back up option that Mac users can to automate their back-up of data.

I'm a big believer in redundant backups. I have two NAS's on my network (3 and 4gb respectively) but wanted something for my main desktop. With a gift card I got, purchased this. Began to back everything up, and before I knew it, it was done. All my storage on my network is WD, and I trust them with my data.

I bought this drive when it was on sale, and I'm glad I did. The drive has more than enough space to back up my stuff and still have plenty of room left. The backup software that comes with it does a very good job of backing up anything new I've put on my system. The only knock on this drive is the noise it makes when it wakes up, sounds like it's going to take off.

Picked up this drive to replace a 6TB Western Digital MyBook that was getting close to capacity. Don't really have any problems with the drive after using it for a few weeks, but it is a little louder than the drive that it's replacing. Not horribly loud, just vibrates a little more. Still, I'm satisfied. Spinning drives will never been completely quiet.

The organization that I volunteer for needed a place to store photos used for their website. This is was an excellent cost effective way to store along with the free cloud service. Very easy to install. Works as advertised.

The drive works fine for backing up files. I don't know if I would use it as a drive to work off of because it's fairly noisy.

I bought two of these at the same time to replace the stacks of hard drives I had sitting on my desk. I have much more room now for other clutter and these two drives take up little space and are decent in size for the price.

Drive worked perfectly we had it on a high-end surge protector so we are not sure what killed it. Frankly it's a 8 TB mechanical disk it's going to have a high rate of failure. My suggestion would be to get the MyBook Duo same manufacturer more expensive but it's 2 x 4 TB disks and seems to be more stable. We are returning our now deak book after transferring 3.7 TB of data to it and picking up a second My Book Duo.

Purchased to clear off work laptop and two other smaller external drives. Easy set up and plenty of left over room. Only downside is the speed of copying files over. Should have check the RPMs to make sure it was 7200 or more. Other than that, I'm impressed with the ease of set up, and amount of storage for the price.

This is a no brainer! Hook it up and get all of those files backed up! when I did my course on DOS (oops! that's how old I am!) I will never forget the trainer saying Backup! Backup! Backup! You will never regret getting an external drive to copy all those precious memories and alllll that hard work you put into siting and working on the computer! What I do is make a directory using the date like this: "2021-06-15 BU" and straight copy of my data files as a good backup. in a couple of weeks time I do the same again, under a new date. This has enough space to do several rolling backups so an older version is always ready. So if the computer crashes for whatever reason those precious files are there. Phew! Just as well I backed up!
