Western Digital has always been reliable for drives, external or internal. This external drive lives up to the name. It's been working great and provides lots of space.

This unit has excellent storage capacity for the price. I do have a bit of an issue that is yet unresolved. It may be a problem on my end, but my computer doesn't recognize it on startup unless I boot with the unit unplugged. Boot, then plug it in and it works fine. It's probably just so huge it overwhelms my system. It's a little slow to wake up at times, but once it does its plenty fast to play video but editing is slower. I would not use it for storing something I'm working on, only finished products. Overall, it's a decent drive and I'm sure my problems are on my end as I am using a computer I built 5 years ago, so, ol girl's got some miles on her. I'd still buy it again!

    Faster than the seagate equivalent!

Too bad it lacks an access LED, but this uses WD blue drives inside, which perform much better than the archive level drives used by seagate. I own now 6 of these and they all perform well so far.

Bought this a few months ago as a backup drive. Purchased the 8tb version. Looks and performs great! WD drives are the way to go in my opinion.

Great value for 8TB hard drive. If you need an external drive with lots of space at value price, you cannot go wrong with this one.

Good drive with lots of space. Hooked it up to an old Mac Mini to serve files and perform network backups. Has worked great so far.

I purchased this 8TB WD drive when a similar Seagate drive crashed. A few observations about this drive. It is somewhat noisy, mainly vibrations transmitted from the base. I rested it on a rubbery pad to deaden the noise to a degree. It takes my computer much longer to start up since this drive was attached. This drive seems to 'sleep' and require time to reconnect more than the Seagate. Once started, access times are acceptable. I have had it about a month with no issues beyond these.

I was able to move over 1,000 movies from several drives onto this device, saving me space and energy. The USB 3.0 interface is fast and I can play videos directly from the drive.

You really can't beat these drives for the massive amount of storage. Not the fastest but fast enough with USB 3 for any archive purpose. Great value as well $/mb

After only a couple of weeks of using this drive, it started clicking consistently. It sounded like the drive was failing. I bought a second drive, and that one lagged and had connection issues. This seems to only happen with the WD 8TB drives. I have used the WD My Book 4TB drives for years with no problems. I returned to those and will stick with those!

Using it with ps4 is fine

I have been using it with the PS4 since external HD support was recently implemented. It is working with no issues. I do not find it noisy and it is fast enough. I docked one star because it has no external drive light and I like to be able to see hard drive activity. I should point out many people do not like a drive light and find it distracting. So for you fguys-5 stars
