I use it for storing my media files and streaming/listening to them through my hard drive from my wide screen television. It beats searching for the physical copy of a DVD and music disk when I have the urge to see or listen to them.

Works great. I got it to use for Time Machine backups for my Macs. It may be a little on the loud side for some people but it’s not a big deal for me.

I really like WD My Book external hard drives. They are totally dependable. I would get a WD hard drive over any other brand. So easy to set up and very compatible. Have Never had a problem with WD My Book. Would recommend them to others.

As with any larger external drive, there's some minor vibration (depending on the type of surface it's sitting on) when it's running. I replace the factory pads on the bottom with thicker self-adhesive foam or cork pads, which are far more effective than rubber in reducing noise and vibration. The drive can be password protected with built-in 256-bit AES hardware encryption, and comes with good backup software if you want to use it that way.

Great price and drive for storing large files. Especially if you need a drive in the meantime and can’t a drive with more space at the moment.

I have loved the WD MyBook series of external HDD ever since they first came out. they are reliable and solid. I am in the video editing business and they serve great for storing old projects that I am no longer working on.

I purchased this product to replace an older model that was almost full. It would take about an hour to transfer 100gb files. I plugged this one in and within one hour I was able to transfer over 900gbs of files!

Simple: I have another WD with which I am very happy. So when I inherited some of my aunt's family photos I decided to copy all the "new" photos to a new WD so I could Identify all the people or places for the coming generations. My "Photo Gallery" can hold close-ups as well as groups of photos of my own making and there is plenty of room for the "newbies". The WD is easy to set up and to use. The price was reasonable.

I purchased this storage device about 6 months ago for music and it has worked just fine. I have over 1T of music on it, and it is fast! and works well with my cd ripper. Would highly recommend.

Nice external drive for the price! If your looking for something that doesn't make any noise at all look to the SSD drives

Very good value, the only thing I had todo was reformat it for NTFS, which took a few moments since something was still using it. I have been using it as a backup since I bought it and it works fine.

Before purchasing this I acquired a Seagate drive from another online retailer. Unfortunately, that device was dead on arrival. This WD drive has served me well and works flawlessly with my local Plex setup at home.

This is a great hard drive that I have been using for nightly backups with no failures or loss in speed. This is the second WD external HD I have bought and I am fully pleased and will buy others as the need arises.

I own several of these and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for affordable, fast, reliable storage in either FreeNAS or UnRAID server. Plan to order more when they go on sale again. Highly recommended!

Looks good, stores all my stuff. Hard drives usually are hard to review until like 2 years after you buy them so you know if they fail. This one does what it says it will.

I have used WD for years. I have never had any negative experience with any of their products; including this 8TB external hard drive that I use for movies, music, and photos. TONS of space. Great value. Highly recommended.

Much needed space increase over the previous 3TB I had. Transfer of existing data went well and completed in a timely fashion over night.

Drive has a massive capacity! Design is new and seems sturdy. It's well ventilated and doesn't seem to have any issues with connection or heating. Transfer speeds are on par with standard external drives. I'm happy with my purchase!

Seems to work ok...explorer and back up software indicate files are being saved. Makes a loud thumping sound when connected/operating, but doesn't appear to be an issue.

I needed an external hard drive to backup my network attached storage device. This Hard drive was easy to set up and a great value for the price. Now I have peace of mind since I have a backup of all my files on the NAS.
