    I'm no expert on external drives. I just want it to last a long time and be fast. So far the drive is functioning fine. The speed doesn't seem great, even when plugged into a 3.0 port. It also is always asleep, so any time I go to access files on the drive I have to wait a minute for it to wake up.

    Putting all my DVDs / BDs into digital format. I'm using this as my preferred storage medium for my complete libraries. I use the WD Passports as kind of a backup / everyday use for playback. This drive is quick and (contrary to other reviewers) is extremely quiet. I can't tell at all when it's being accessed / written to.

    Drive is much faster than the WD 2.5" 2TB USB drive it replaced. You can hear the head seek from a distance, unlike other drives, but I don't find it annoying. It's been in service for a while and has performed perfectly. I believe it's a non SMR drive, which was important to me. I am likely to purchase another one of these in the future.

    I got this hard drive after having 2 Seagate drives fail. This actual unit I got is actually an 8tb helium-filled drive and performs really great with 200MB read/write on average. Hope this doesn't fail. So far, it's working great and very fast.
