Good storage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not the easiest to use once installed. It also runs a little slow and takes some time for things to load. Tried using it remotely and it didn't work, still trying to figure that one out. Otherwise, does the job in storing and accessing on different computers within the home.

Good depending on what you use it for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this primarily as a way to back up my iPhone photos / videos. Which is one of the things they advertise it for. To do this you download their app and you have to go through and select each photo / video you want to upload. While this does work the app constantly crashed on my iPhone 4s with IOS 6.xx and does on my iPhone 5s as well. Also I have over 1000 photos and you have to go in and select every single photo you want to back up manually. This needs to have some kind of sync option for it to be good for anyone that takes a decent amount of photos. It is also VERY slow to copy photos / videos and the application needs to be running even though it says that it does it in the back ground. Honestly I bought it tried it a few times and it just sits there doing nothing hoping that it will eventually get better app support. I don't need it for other backup as I already have that covered.

Lots of space, but nothing else.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The price for the storage is great. That's about it. It's only design to work over the network, which it takes a long time and it's a pain to make a huge initial or subsequent pc-to-harddrive or vice versa transfers. Also multiple apps are needed for multiple things. For example, one app is used to discover, another for settings, and another for accessing it. This should be a simple app to control everything. Getting to it to manage it like a "folder" or "attached hard drive" is almost impossible. It should be easier to get to for anyone that's in the network, just like any other shared resources. I'm an I.T. professional, and this has given me more headaches than setting up actual servers and rights in a corporate setting. I would love to love this, but the sheer lack of everything makes this hard. I would return it as it doesn't work like I would like it to work, except that, again, the price is rather good for a 3TB to just get a regular hard drive with no "cloud" service.

great until you fill it up half way
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first hooked it up it worked pretty good. File transfers were still slow. I had folders with 50 gb and it took way to long to transfer. I am hooked up to Fios. 300/300. So shouldn't be that. My devices take way to long to connect. I was hoping to drop Dropbox for my business. I don't think my secretary Will be as patient as me. For personal use I will still use it. Get it if you just want to use with your computer. Ipad use for me has been terrible.

Problems with great idea
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to love this product, but simply cannot. My first one died (power cord died, backups gone) within 30 days, and my second (which i have now) has already started failing on backups. Three Macs in the house, and they claim Time Machine compatibility, but all three now often say "device not available" and backups could not be completed. Very disappointing for $180. Better to buy three USB backup drives and use Carbonite.

don't do it...get a Synology
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please stay away from this product. I created an account here so that I could leave a review, something I never do. I have a WD MyBook that I use to backup my computers, but I wanted to get a NAS and was looking at Synology when I saw the MyCloud products. The prices were much lower than the Synology I was looking at so I figured I'd try it out. Long story short, this product simply doesn't work. Prior to purchasing, I could not fathom that the product could be this bad. I shrugged off poor reviews as "that guy must just be an idiot". The worst thing is all the time I wasted trying to get this thing to work properly. Now I'm going to have to move all the data off of it so that I can return it...if I can even do that since I've had it longer than a month. Sadly, this experience will cause me to steer clear from WD products in the future.

Poor data speeds, unreliable, terrible support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product because if its great price, especially for such a large amount of storage. However, the drive failed to read an external USB port several days ago, and is now unrecognized on the network. This is after several restarts. I spent nearly 2 hours online with tech support, with the only resolution being to call their "Stage 2" support. After getting Stage 2 online, the USB drive mysteriously appeared. However, it was still unrecognized by the WD Quick View software, which I was assured would resolve after a reboot. It for awhile, but constantly loses connection. After another reboot (due to very slow transfers), neither WD's software nor my network recognize the device. I'm seriously thinking of returning this and just using a large external ED with Dropbox for online cloud service as I did before.

Untrustworthy and unpredictable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this for a few months now, and just when I think I've got it working--after HOURS of setup, testing, and reconfiguring--something happens--it becomes inaccessible, or it dumps vast amounts of data (absolutely be sure you use a back up drive!!!). While I really want this to work, it's simply too unpredictable--it quits responding, it's not accessible remotely, or other random glitches. It's the first thing I"ve bought from Best Buy that I feel I truly wasted my money on.

Great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was worried after reading all the bad reviews but this product was everything I wanted/needed. It's easy to setup, easy to use, and easy to access files outside of the home.

Very Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very disappointed that this drive does not work for me. The concept is exactly what I need. I've made a career in technology for 30+ years so I know what I'm doing. I have an Apple Airport Extreme router but am using windows 7 and windows Vista laptops. I was also hoping to us the IOS apps on my iPad for accessing files. It installed easily, although the setup had VERY slow performance. Then I actually tried to use the drive. I attached the windows 7 laptop to the router via an ethernet cord to improve the file transfer. As long as I only tried to transfer 7-10 GB at a time, it worked fine. If I tried to copy more than that, the drive would disconnect from the network and had to be reset in order to connect to it again. I tried this MANY times over a 3 day period. Also, if more than one device tried to access it simultaneously it would also disconnect. For example, when I was copying files on one computer, then tried to only connect to it with my iPad, it would disconnect and have to be reset. Basically, if I tried to do ANYTHING that could be considered "taxing", it would disconnect and need to be reset. I wanted to use it as a backup device as well as housing my iTunes library for serving our laptops and Apple TV. It became very apparent very quickly that this was not up to the task. A scan of the reviews here, and of several other technology forums, shows that this is a pretty common issue. It's really too bad because there does not seem to be a reliable alternative available in the same price range. I'm going to return this, but am not sure yet what my plan B will be.

poor design
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Poor software design.. too many apps or shortcuts to access. Difficult to move initial files or shares as WD calls them . Why not call share files as they are commonly called..

Performance is terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation is quite easy. Cloud access was easy to configure. Backing up via the included WD SmartWare is unsatisfactory. 14 hours into a backup and only 13.85 gig has made it to the drive. Less than a gig an hour. Gig E NIC on the computer, router, and MyCloud. The lights on the MyCloud NIC indicate it has auto-negotiated to GigE. Running WD SmartWave Pro 2.2.1 and Firmware 3.01.04-139 Returning to BestBuy tomorrow
