Just returned it to the store

So my network consists of iMac desktop (mine) Macbook Pro Retina (wife) Macbook Air (mine) iPad Retina (wifes) + iPad mini (mine) hardwired xbox 2 phones + a wifi scale The hope was to have a centralized NAS to backup the desktop and laptops to while file serving content to the xbox + tablets. What happened was that this device when online had extremely slow file transfer speeds, slow initial connection. I would not allow me to copy 100gb from the desktop to one of its network shares. Then all of a sudden, it dropped from the network and would not go back online. Tried enabling UPNP on router, assigning static IP address, port forwarding. Cloud connectivity would not work either. Posted article asking for help on their community support page. Apparently this device does not get along with macs to well and it should be fixed in a future release. To add to it, when doing the return at the store, they asked me why I was returning it. I told them this and the geek squad guy looked at me like I was incompetent. Love being judged!

Great idea - poor implementation / support

Installed per recommendations. Thought data transfer was not what I expected, but continued to use it for a few days. Contacted WD tech support - they suggested problem might be my wireless router and suggested I direct connect to the computer. After several hours of uninstalling / installing WD software with new connection, no difference in performance. After two weeks, able to transfer less than 100GB through Apple Time Machine. Note: although not network sharable, replaced with WD USB drive and transferred over 500GB through Time Machine in less than 7 hours.

    Randomly Deletes Files

I don't normally review, but felt compelled to save you much time or worse. I'm a relatively experienced user and I can tell you with certainty that this drive randomly deletes files. Tech support cannot explain why. A broken or defective drive can be replaced, but this drive randomly deletes terabytes of data even when seemingly functioning normally. Don't take the risk, and at a minimum keep your backups---that way even if you lose days of time at least you will have your data. On top of that setting up private password protected access is extremely challenging, so plan on sharing your files with everyone on your network, unless you are an expert user or have lots of time for tech support. This technology seems like a good idea but is no where near ready for prime time.

    Impossible to set up

Have been trying to set this up for 2 weeks. I have business class cable with super fast up/download speeds. Files transferred as expected but it takes FOREVER to open folders in mycloud. We have spent literally 6 hours+ trying to get this solved with their tier 2 tech support and are still not set up. Unless you are a computer tech, be prepared to waste endless time getting this piece of junk set up. Don't even know how it performs yet. Haven't gotten that far.

Thought this would be a great product - wrong Western Digital support has done nothing to address the problems. Steer clear and chose some other product.
