Cool device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For those that are paying for a home cloud storage, this is a simple saver... Out of the box, instructions are simple and easy. just remember to wait the ten (10) minutes for it to boot up Direct your devises to store to your own cloud, and access them from anywhere you have coverage (wifi or cellular) Speed is good, and access simple. This will pay for itself in a few months and only I will be responsible for data breaches.

Finally, My own Cloud!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, this My Cloud Home connects to ALL of my devices! Cell phones, laptop, tablets and desktop! Now I can store pictures, files, and programs in one place. If a computer dies, no worries! Files and programs were saved to My Cloud Home to be downloaded elsewhere. You may also connect Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, facebook, Box and others directly to My Cloud Home. Highly Recommend!

Pretty good
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is everything I thought it was going to be in a little better. I have been paying for Google to give me an extra gig or to $10 a month now when you could just buy your own just like you do with your cable equipment to get internet in the house it's a long time money saver and it works.

Get the manual online before you try to setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a wonderful way to back up things from your computer and your phone. You will need to keep the software running at start up in order to see the drive as it puts a shortcut on your desktop. The webpage and mobile app on android are great but not as smooth on Windows as I would have liked to be able to see it as a normal network device. Also different users cannot see each other's files. Just make sure you get the manual from Western Digital's website and READ IT first.

Perhaps not for Apple products
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have over 30K photos on my Macbook pro. I Purchased WD My Cloud Home with high hopes to free up space on my MacBook. I was assured by BestBuy sales person that the product is compatible with Macbook and it will back up photos and data AUTOMATICALLY and have capability to retrieve when needed. As it turns out, data and photos from Macbook can only be backed up via Time machine App in MacBook. Specific data or photos from Time Machine backed up Macbook can not be retrieved. WD My Cloud is only good to back up computer to save data in case the computer is crashed. WD customer tech service confirmed that Only way to retrieve SPECIFIC data or Photos from MacBook is to manually upload in WD Cloud. It is a lot of work to physically upload every few days. From my point of view the product is not compatible for my need. My Cloud does automatically back up photos from my iphone and I like that. Therefore, I am going to keep My Cloud Home but it is NOT what I had hoped for. What upsets me the most is that I also got incorrect information from Best Buy. I will not recommend WD My Cloud Home to anyone using MacBook

old name for a totally new product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Back when they released the first mycloud, I bought one. A home based cloud system to back up everything--yes, please! But in getting the new version, I've come to realize this isn't an updated mycloud, it's a whole new product. The apps are all new. You have a completely new management product both on the computer and the mobile device. I kind of disliked the old app, so maybe this is a welcomed upgrade, but it was certainly an unexpected change. I wonder why WD decided to keep the myCloud name, when the product is now completely different. Either way, set up is now more than just adding a device, but it's now setting up a whole new set of applications, with their own usernames and passwords. If you don't have a mycloud, it's a device worth getting. If you already have one, it might not be as simple to "upgrade" to this new device.

Network storage device for the rest of us...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really happy to see how easy and quick it was to get this device configured and to get the file system available for both my PC and from my phone just over the internet. I transferred several files to the device and it was fast. This device is very responsive and the software is the selling point for most home users. The device looks nice and would be useful for any home user. The foot print is minimal but it gives the feeling that it is really delivering. I would buy this again if I needed more storage or another network attached device. It is stylish and highly recommended.

Make sure you have a second backup.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These things are great but I have had one die and the other feels sick. You should be doing this regardless, but make sure you have a 100% backup of your cloud drive in case this one fails. The drive is solid and very convenience the problem is the firmware which can have a glitch when updating which would render the unit useless. I had to send me unit in to have the data recovered by a professional data recovery company. I don't think this is the best drive but a failure could happen with any drive so please have backups of your data. Also, since this thing died of me, and it cost $$$$ to recover data I will not recommend this unit to a friend.

Terrible set-up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the reasons why I purchase this equipment was all the ratings with easy set up! That was not the case with me. I got this thing I plug it in I waited 20 minutes for it to to install shortcuts to my desktop. None of which worked. It kept on asking me to sync my Dropbox account. This is really weird since WD no longer partners with Dropbox on their software. Then on set up, I keep on getting a WinZip window popping up. 35 minutes with customer service and no resolve. They're calling me tomorrow, by which time I will have taken the piece of equipment back to Best Buy and had my money refunded.

Works great until it does not
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product as a long term storage solution. The product worked great for the first two years. After the two years, the product's internal security certificate expired, causing connectivity issues and essentially rendering the cloud functionality useless. I contacted WD support with the technical details of the issue, which I know is easy to fix, but have not received word from them. I would not recommend this product since the company does not seem to support the product as well as they should.

Not a NAS drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this disk with the intention of backing up a couple of laptops in my home. It will not work because it does not use the typical file system. It's basically only accessible from the internet. If that is what you're looking for, then it may be for you. If you're looking for a backup disk, find one that uses the NTFS. The MyCloud Home uses KDDFS.

loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i bought the 2TB in order to back up both a mac and a PC on my wifi network. it works and wasn't that hard to set up but i noticed that it makes a low knocking noise. WD support was great but after a few weeks i had to pay for them to send me another because they said the knocking must be a defect. now i have the new one and needed tech support to help set it up due to having set up the previous one. After all that this new one is making the same noises. Mine is in my bedroom so unfortunately it is a problem. if you don't care about the noise it is not bad. i'm going to return and try Seagate.

Could be worse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did you buy this thing for a single computer and store static data? Well it works with limitations and an annoying software installation. Did you buy this thing for multiple computers using dynamic data? Well the result will be multiple annoying, some times not working installations, one per computer, so if you have let's say more than three is a really bad idea. And the worst part is when you finish all installations and everything seems working fine for later to discover the computers are not really "sharing files" but copies of the files, so if multiple users are changing the same database file at the same time, each only can see its own data until the connection is reset and the data of the users disappears (somewhere inside the "cloudy disk"), in some cases. I talked to "WD Tech support", so far three times one for to install (I could not believe I had to run the same software, WD discovery, in every computer) and twice (with "two different tech levels"). And well they don't know why or how to fix it, apparently (end so far) there is no way to disable the "cloudy features" or at least no body knows because the designers of this product have their heads "in the clouds" and cannot share information in real time.

No user friendly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is worse than its predecessor My Cloud. It says it is designed for family but the syncing part can not be configured to goto each individual device folders. It lumps all photos from all devices to one single folder and the same for others. It is designed for single user in mind only. Don’t use this product for multiple users backup

Avoid this piece of garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not water your time or money! Had this piece of garbage for 4 hours before it went offline and wouldn’t come back online. Called “tech support”... what a joke! Their idea of troubleshooting was to make sure it was plugged in. After several calls and incompetent reps I was told to do a soft reset, now the device won’t even power on and all my files are gone. Their response.... to pay for data recovery and they send me another worthless piece of crap! Spare yourself the headache, DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!

Difficult setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To setup WD MyCloud on my phone, it's asking me for a 9 digit access code and allows only numbers to enter. But the code on the product appears to be alphanumeric, can not type in characters. Contacted support and they could not figure it out either. The web interface seems to be working. It's still connected to my network but it's annoying not to be able to use it. I'm returning it.

Not Recommended If Your Using For Time Machine BU
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wish I would have just purchased more iCloud storage. It does not stay connected. I have to reboot everything from the router, switch, computer and MyCloud appliance to get it to do a backup. Then the connection breaks. It is very manual and Ihighly disappointing.
