I initially bought this so I could move a lot of files off of an old laptop before I reloaded it. But since then I have set up the "cloud" access and created some shared drives that the whole family can use to save/share pictures, videos, or whatever. I like that I can access it from any device in any location. Everything has worked great so far.

This is the 2nd one of this model that I've purchased. This one was for my nephew. Other than the basic quality of the design and functionality is that I can access it from wherever I might be due to it using Wifi. When I get access to Wifi I get access to the files stored on the hard drive.

Great way to automatically back up all my pictures and files

If you want to be able to retrieve documents, pictures and/or files anywhere, anytime and securely, this is the device you need in your home. I’ve accessed mine from all over the country and overseas. Well worth the cost if you need a personal file server. You can also send folks links to files you want to share.

It works as expected. A little sluggish than a USB drive connected directly to your computer.

Would Not Work With My Dish Network DVR Had To Return

This is more complicated to use than I thought it was going to be. I was not able to set it to my network so I am having trouble saving when I am away from the house. I will admit it is nice to be able to log into the website and upload from there. If I new how to use this it would work great but it is just to complicated for my computer skill level.

After dropping my hard drive I purchased this one. Works great!

Don't bother with this product. It does not work with Arris router. The first time I called to get support, they didn't identify this issue immediately so I had to go through their exchange process and try it again the 2nd time. Their work around is to get a network switch, but by this time I've had it with the product. It wasted so much of my time and they had me jumping through hoops just to get a product that does not work. I bought this because I owned the older version of the mycloud. I'm not sure if they made / developed the newer version with low cost in mind, but whatever their reasons are...not worth the trouble.

This needed way too much baby sitting for a Time Machine compatible drive. I spent hours setting this up, chasing many articles about how to connect under different conditions that I was witnessing (from Time Machine not seeing the drive to not connecting to the server and more). I accomplished the first Time Machine backup after manually connecting to the drive via Finder's "Go to server" connection. Next morning it did an auto backup. But after a disconnection from my home's wifi for a bit, it could not reconnect and I could not force connect it. I could connect to what I think was the "public" patition and see some photos I saved previously, I could connect via My Cloud and the Discover app. But there was no way for me to connect like I first did. Waaaay to tempermental. I don't have time for this.

System is a little hard to use at times. Works well with Alexa when music is uploaded to it.

Within a month of use the device stopped working, I contacted WD for its warranty and they said they will replace it but will not recover my data for free. I also spoke to Geek squad at BestBuy and they told me I would have to pay anywhere from $250 to $1000 for data recovery (protection plan will not cover this, they will only replace it). If you are planning to buy this I would highly recommend attaching an external hard drive to backup your data.
