I needed more storage for my ps4. Took maybe 5 minutes from the time I opened the box to full install. Just plug it in to the ps4, go to "devices", find "storage", and then format it. It was that simple. Very happy with this product :)

    This drive is not reliable.

I purchased this to backup my laptop files. I spent several hours over the course of three days or so moving TONS files to this 1TB hard drive. Today the drive was accidentally disconnected from my laptop without ejecting it (NOTE: the drive was not in active use, it was merely connected). After this, the drive was corrupted. After attempting a fix-disc, it started operating properly but ALL files GONE. I'm in the IT industry and have used MANY external hard drives and have NEVER had one go this bad with a simple non-eject disconnect. Also, I attempted to return to Best Buy for store credit so I could purchase a different drive. They have proof that I purchased the product at their store, but they would not allow me to do this because it had been longer than 2 weeks since my purchase (it had been around three weeks).

It’s a hard drive and it does hard drive stuff. The quality is pretty good and it’s not slow by any means. I’ve never had an issue with compatibility but I have a windows PC.

Able to gain more memory for my PS4 with this, but the only problem is that it has trouble reading it for my PS4 for the memory.

    Not Plug and Play

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The WD My Passport is marketed as a plug and play product (no instructions provided and supposedly unnecessary) but it falls short in that regard. Anyone not computer savvy is likely to struggle with this product. The WD Discovery software did not recognize the My Passport drive. That resulted in time consuming phone calls to WD support (case 13086296) to learn (from someone that was extremely hard to understand with a foreign accent) that downloading multiple individual software programs directly from WD would be necessary. In addition the WD Discovery software will not eject the drive. I use Windows 7 Home Premium and Safely Remove Hardware also will not eject the drive. I have followed all potential solutions offered by WD's website and other potential solutions available on the internet and nothing works except for a hard shutdown of my computer. All my other drives eject properly from the same USB 3.0 port. This is a known problem with WD drives that has existed for many years with no remedy by WD. Finally, My Passport is very slow and took almost eight hours to upload 473 GB of data, which is slow for USB 3.0 standards. In summary, My Passport leaves a lot to be desired and I am trying to decide on whether or not to return for a refund. As a side observation, the number of high reviews on the Best Buy site is quite amazing to me and is quite different from the ones found on Amazon for this product.

Have 2 1TB MyPassport HD with clicking sound

    Posted .

I purchased 3 WD MyPassports (one 2TB-two 1TB) and had problems with one as it started clicking and the light continued to flash. It got to the point that it froze up my computer system and could not access any of my programs or even the directory UNTIL I disconnected the drive and suddenly everything started working normally. The 1TB was for my XP machine and not realize that the computer would take 20 minutes to go through the POST. After I disconnected the problem MyPassport, then the boot up times returned to normal. Am having problems with WD support and in one email, they incorrectly used another MyPassport serial number from one that I purchased. I went out and purchased ANOTHER 1 TB MyPassport and now IT IS beginning to have clicking sounds. Not sure what to do at this point as I believe I will have trouble returning both drives and reluctant to send in the first drive as it contains a lot of sensitive information that I cannot even access through any manner of file drive recognition (Windows or command prompt). Thusly I would be hesitant to recommend MyPassport given the problems I am having—other people may have better luck. I think WD received faulty parts from overseas.

I have several of these and they work great. I just hate the new housing design and wish they would go back to the old design so I took off 1 star.

Good product but why does it have to be so ugly?

    Posted .

It works very well but it is ugly and only has a 2 year warranty. It should be a 3 year warranty like the ultra. So I deducted 1 star.

Was working great for a while but if you move it too much it will break. Not really portable, it will fail. If you plan on buying keep it in one place and not move it too much.

its not worth buying its there worse hard drive ever. If western digital keeps making bad drives i will not buy another drive with there name or the other brands they make. It only lasted me a couple of months. It kept telling me i had to reformat it every time i plugged it in my computer. Then finally stopped working.

I purchased the Western Digital My Passport terabyte portable external hard drive from Best Buy. In less than a year, it quit functioning. I lost assess to the backup of my photos, music and videos. Don't let that happen to you. Do not trust this storage device.
