However, the hardware encryption functionality apparently requires installation of WD Discovery. As part of the install process, you have to decide if you want to share data with WD (ostensibly typical system functionality info). However, what is not made clear is that by selecting 'No', the software WILL NOT INSTALL. Multiple online users report the same issue but that it magically installs when 'Yes' to data sharing is installed. So, I will have to use another mechanism for encryption because I refuse to have mandated data sharing.

I trust Western Digital more than the others and this came in on the mark as far as price and size capacity. It also arrived earlier than projected, which is always a plus.
