Small and very easy to use right out of the box. Great buy.

The WD - My Passport for Mac 2TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive with Hardware Encryption (Latest Model) - Blue is a tiny package of serious external storage. 2TBs of storage on the go with easy plug and play access via USB and USB-C.
Out of the package this tiny giant was recognized by my MacBook Pro (Late 2013), installed, and was ready to transfer and backup my HD. I was honestly not sure if this was going to be SSD or traditional HD. It is so small, that I was surprised to find it vibrate slightly as the drive revved up. Another surprise is the metal casing as other variations I have used in the past are plastic. I am a musician and photographer so I have many files and RAW photos that bog down my laptop, but this is a great companion for my work with tons of storage. The price point is spot on for this size and storage!
PROS
- WD quality and brand!
- Tiny footprint
- Accessibility (USB and USB-C connectivity for quick and seamless data transmission)
- Portability, small/light enough to go anywhere you go
- Metal casing
- Cables included
- Price/Size/Storage
CONS
- The vibration was a bit odd for the size. Really wish this was SSD, but for the price/size/storage, one can't knock it too hard!

I began backing up my computer using Time Machine on my Mac. It was totally backed up and was encrypting and suddenly it quit. I got the message that I had ejected the disk incorrectly even though it was still connected. I called Geek Squad and they told me it would cost $225 to look at the problem. No thanks. Then I took my computer and drive to Schrock. They told me the drive was defective. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is that Best Buy exchanged the drive. I’ll try again.!

First thing you need to know about this drive is that it is very small. Not that I would expect a portable drive to be big, but it is much smaller that it looks in the photos. Feels solid and it is very quiet. In fact, if it didn't have a little indicator light that glows when its plugged in you probably wouldn't know its running. The inclusion of both a USB and a USB-C cord is nice and should make it compatible for most. With it being pre-formatted for Mac, it was plug & play with my Mac Mini. I'm using it as an automatic backup to replace my old backup that bit the dust (it wasn't a WD :-) ). All in all, it's a great little drive that you can easily carry with you, or plug into your desktop and forget it's there.

In the three weeks since I installed it, it began giving me "failure to back up" notices. I followed instructions, ran Disk Utility First Aid and got it fixed at first but then it failed again. Next day First Aid fixed it, then failed again the next. It is definitely unpredictable and unreliable. I believe this drive is defective so I am returning it. I had purchased two WD My Passport drives before and they always worked and lasted at least three years, this newer model is no good and I am not buying another WD drive again.

I brought this to back up all my photos. It was great at first but now it doesn’t work. After I uploaded a few pics, it stopped working. It was a bit pricy to not work.

There was a malfunction with mine. Had to call western digital and clear the hard drive completely from the command prompt. Took about an hour. Haven’t had this issue with other western digital hard drive.
