When set up for backups, Time Machine formatted it APFS. The drive works, but will not spin down and shut off when ejected. Even after disappearing from Finder, there is disk activity on the drive and the LED is blinking. Neither WD nor Apple has a clue but if I reformat it as MacOS Extended I can copy files to and from it and it ejects every time without a problem. You cannot use MacOS Extended for Time Machine. It must be an APFS volume.

The oldest is 500GB, and over 15 years old, it still works. Bought this for the USB-c connectivity. Hope it hold up like the other 5 WD products i have.
