Excellent long term back-up/storage with security! I am going to scan and store several files of paper into an electronic filing system and this has the ability to do that and with encryption too!

This is yet another great offering from Western Digital. When it comes to mass storage for static files (i.e. files that aren't accessed all the time like photos, videos, documents). When it comes to hard disk drives for mass storage, I have always turned to Western Digital because they have yet to let me down. In terms of design, the HD's silver and black design cues are a welcomed modern touch. However, I definitely would have liked to see WD start using brushed aluminum instead of the silver coated plastic. This would truly make the drive stand out. The drive performs at what you'd expect a Hard Disk Drive to perform at when transferring files over 3.0 USB speeds. For reference, I transferred 162 GBs of 1080p x.264 videos from my PC to this drive and it took about 25 minutes with a write speed of ~ 117 MB/s. What I like about this drive is that it offers hardware encryption in case you are storing sensitive files. The drive itself has a USB Type-C port and comes with a USB Type-C cable that also comes with a standard USB adapter that you can use to connect to devices that don't have a USB Type-C port. I do wish that the cable would have been slightly longer. One HUGE recommendation I have is that if you're purchasing this drive, definitely buy the case that Western Digital sells for $19.99. I bought mine at best buy and they're located right next to the drives. I can't recommend this enough. Not only is it a perfect snug fit for the drive, but the case itself is very high quality and will protect your drive. Especially if you're someone like me that throws their drives in their backpack and takes it work. The case also has a small sleeve to store your USB Type-C cable and adapter!! Overall, great drive and will definitely be picking up more in the near future.

So far this external hard drive is fine. The real test is when they fail and the company is no where to be found to help you out with charging you money. So far it is working fine but I just had a Seagate external fail on me and no one to contact to help with data recovery. :(

Returning it was told it had certain capabilities that it does partially have, the cloud options were told to me it works with any and all of your cloud accounts. Apparently as it told me upon trying to set up it's limited and more are in the works to come soon paraphrasing. However I needed this to gather all my data now not in the future so will return and find something compatible with the clouds I'm utilizing. Was also told it has the capabilities to download the entirety of your laptop and be able to when plugged into say a friend's laptop pull your full and entire replica of yours onto theirs. Have yet to figure out how that works I gave up and I can change out the screens and disassemble and reassemble anything electronic as well as troubleshoot. Was a tech agent and manager for over three yesrs.

Speedy file transfers over USB-C. It does what it needs to do, and for a spinning HDD it's pretty good. Decent for the price, little bit on the heavy side.

I picked this up to backup my photos so I can have them safely stored on several drives. Worked exactly as I hoped and was very easy to get going.

I've gone through a few of these, and this one is the best one I've had. Of course this hold vital data, and I cannot lose it. I trust this particular product.

Brought for myself to store large excess files. It is actually made for Windows but after installing mac compatible software, it is working like champ. I am loving it so far.

Wish it had USB 3.1. Read and write speeds would be much better than ther 105mbs I get now.

Holds all my pics on current phone and previous phone with tons of room to spare! Better than a drawer full of flash drives!

Compared to other hard drives the slim ones from Seagate , even if it's a little bigger it is worth it because of the brand and of course the speed at when data is sent and received

I use this for my Time Machine backup. It works well, but nothing special about it.

Others have stopped working but no problems with this one so far!
