    Packaging killed the drive.

I spent an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't initialize the drive. Turns out, the drive is DOA. It was put into a box without any packing material. I was a little too optimistic. The lack of spin up noise should've been a sign. I'll update this review once I get a replacement.

My drive worked initially, got it to format and then it just stopped responding. Was going to run in an Unraid storage server but after barely any use it just died. Can’t initialize, can’t format it, pops up with a device IO error even in other test PCs. Western Digital did honor the warranty, and then charged me $5 for return shipping. So I paid full price for a new hard drive only to end up with a refurbished replacement drive and the hassle/cost of mailing and waiting for a replacement. Buy a better brand

Brought 3 hardrives for my NAS, and 2 of them are DoA. Not sure if it was due to shipping or quality issue.

Do not buy WD drives for NAS use. Ever. Google "WD NAS 3 yr warning" for more information. Depending on the NAS, after 3 years, you will not be able to perform certain functions with this drive because it will enter a warning state, even if the drive is perfectly fine. Some NAS units will ignore the warning state. Don't buy red drives from WD, and if you do, do not pair them with a Synology NAS.

I plugged this into my synology nas and it did nothing. Perhaps I just got a bad one, but I didn't want to try with this brand again, so I returned it and bought a seagate instead.

Junk. This drive crashed before the NAS Array was rebuilt. Less than 24 hours of operation.
