Media Player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own two other media players also from WD but this one was a bit difficult to start up. I was using this where I did not have access to wifi and the unit needed to use wifi for it to initiate. When I had access to wifi it worked, just wish I did not need to do that if my use did not need wifi.

Early Burn-Out Concerns!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had good results with WD's products. However, this device (and I have a few of them at home) tend to run "HOT". Even after they are turned-off, they are still running in the background, which is why the boot-up is fast, but this cause the box to be very warm all of the time!

Way over my head
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In theory, this device was going to solve a lot of my media problems. When I got it home, the directions were extremely confusing. I ended up returning the product because I really didn't understand how to properly hook it up.

Works as advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My intended purpose for this product was to assist in streaming video from a NAS. While I do enjoy Netflix and this model does not support Netflix is no concern for me neither are the other apps. I have other devices that support Netflix and the other apps that WD TV media player offers. WD needs to support Netflix, as I think this driver potential customers to purchase similar products from the competition. I have only had this item for a couple of days, but it works great so far for my intended purpose as stated above. It has a HDMI and optical port on the back as well. The unit itself does have some weight to it and rubber feet so it doesn't slide around easily as it sits atop my Blu-Ray player. The remote feels solid and has a rubberized feel to the bottom of it. The remote works well and have not experienced any lag in response that some other reviewers have experienced.

very good media player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using it for 3 months and it plays most of the video fomats i have in my Hard drive. However, i have noticed that when i play a mkv or a mp4 movie I can hear some audio distortion in some scenes. It does not happen if i lower the sound. It also happens when i play music. The wdtv is connected via hdmi to my hdtv and the audio via in-line to my 2.1 sound system. Overall it is a good product except for that little problem.

Excellent choice for cable-cutters
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I shifted to new place, I was not interested in paying over $120 for TV+Internet. I wanted to use my existing non-SMART TV so I needed a streaming player. Based on my friend's feedback who uses WDTV Live, I decided to checkout WDTV and it turned out a perfect match. I'm watching Netflix on WDTV it and it is just awesome. I also have connected my NAS drive over WiFi to WDTV and I can watch all my videos / photos effortlessly. Typing and searching is bit cumbersome for YouTube, but I can directly stream video to WDTV (Like you do using chromecast) and it works fine. I hope Netflix and Hulu improve their interface to be more user friendly on the device but overall I'm very happy with WDTV.

No Netflix Streaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased one of these 2 years ago and it streamed Netflix and played everything in my personal library. It was the perfect box so I bought a second one for another room and....surprise WD has decided to remove Netflix streaming from the new model. I ended up returning it. I don't know why any company would make a streaming device that doesn't support Netflix. These boxes do a great job playing video from a NAS drive but dropping Netflix streaming was a stupid move.

Great For Photos, Lousy At AVCHD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this WD Media Player for two reasons. The 1st that it be able to play AVCHD Video from SD cards. This way after shooting a vacation or other video with my Canon HF G30 Video Camera, I could simply use a USB card reader and watch unedited footage on my TV. No Go. At times it will show the first sequence I shot but no more. Other times, it simply hangs up until I have to unplug it from power source. Very disappointing. It will however play AVCHD videos once it is on a portable hard drive with no issues. There is also no menu or showing of files when using an SD card like there is when using a portable hard drive, but of course the files on hard drive are ones I created. I have to use my Playstation 3 to be able to view videos in the manner in which I want. The 2nd reason I bought this device was to display photos I shot using a Canon 6D when on an SD Card. It does show and display photos with no problems when using the same card reader. The card reader I am using a highly rated Kingston FCR-HS2 USB 3.0 reader. I wanted to really like this WD Media Player and have tried various ways to view AVCHD from an SD card but it just does not want to work for me, so I will be returning it to Best Buy. Oh yes, this being a also a streaming player, it DOES NOT have the most popular streaming services, Netflix or Amazon Video capability. This I knew when I bought it which almost stopped me from buying it to begin with, but our TV's are Smart TV's and we have other devices that have Netflix and Amazon so it was not a deal breaker like it may be for others.

Great media player that works with multiple format
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an awesome little media player that syncs very well over your network with your WD MyCloud harddrive and plays files and displays pictures from your GoPro or similar. It even plays *.mkv files, too. The new version does not have NetFlix.

Wifi has a lot to be desired.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: 1. Reads all files avi, mp4, mkv 2. 2 usb ports 1 on the front and 1 on the back 3. Supports 2 Tb/seagate drives 4. Great remote cons: wifi range. Needed to add a WIFI repeater to the unit via ethernet .
