Customers enjoy the 3-Way Light Switch for its ease of use, straightforward installation, and seamless compatibility with Apple HomeKit. The design is considered sleek and modern, and the app functionality is reliable. However, some customers have noted that the switch is a little bulky and requires a neutral wire, which may not be compatible with older wiring.

Great way to begin smart home automation

I started out buying smart light bulbs, but for the majority of my rooms I realized that was a waste. These smart light switches were the answer. They pair great with my Google Home, and were easy to install, if you understand basic wiring.
The only issue is that they do need a neutral wire, and some of my house is old enough, that isn't present. As I remodel rooms and upgrade my wiring, I'll be adding more of these.

Switch works as expected but it doesn’t co-operate with hue products if your on the same network. It kept kicking my hue hdmi sync box offline causing very very very annoying troubleshooting. I got to the point where I had to run a wire shark and watch the packets flow through my not so tiny smart home network. The problem is with the wemo switches is that they use multicast. And they use it excessively. Same with hue. When they were both on the same network “flat vlan” they would interfere with each other and knock each other off. This created difficulty with Hdmi syncing with the TV on the hue system. And switches disappearing from the app. I had to create a seperate vlan and use igmp snooping to get these to place nicely together. I’m not sure if they fixed the issue via firmware yet since I haven’t bothered putting them back on the same vlan, but if you folks don’t have that ability to create multiple vlans. Then I’m afraid your probably going to see issues. I had these for months while calling both hue and wemo. No one offered any help or firmware fix, and troubleshooting steps are way beyond what I’d call standard consumer friendly. Though Hue definitely had the smarter Developers willing to work with their consumers.

Bought these switches to convert my regular LED lights to be controlled with apple HomeKit. You just need only one of these to convert one of your circuit to be HomeKit compatible. Used one switch in the living room and one in the hallway. Installation was a breeze with WEMO HomeKit bridge. Just replaced one of my regular switches with one of demo switches and is a perfect fit. Nice purchase.

Works as advertised. Shouldn't be a surprise, but the back of the switch does take up more room then traditional (non-smart) switches, so be sure to reorganize the wiring/wire nuts to account for that space. Otherwise, the app works fine and I love the smart features - installed in laundry room that always seems to be left on, but now I auto-turn-off after 15 minutes. Perfect!

The instructions are very clear and as long as you follow it as designed, then you shouldn’t experience any issues. The only thing I opted not to do per the app recommendation was to set one of the 3 way switches as a secondary switch. By doing so, it removes the second switch from the app visibility which I prefer not to do. Works seamlessly with Apple HomeKit and doesn’t require a bridge.

Better Alternative to TP 3 Way Switch

They work as advertised. Great set of 3 way switches. A bit on the pricey side compared to TP Link, but to me they are better quality. I own TP link 3 way and these and both work fine with Alexa and are easy to setup. I prefer these to TP link also because they are setup to use color coded wires with provided wire nuts.

Easy and simple to install. Works perfectly on 3-way lights using only one of the Wemo switches at one end. Handy addition to my Wemo system throughout the house. Would like to see a dimmable version of the 3-way.

Works great and only 1 is required for a 3 way circuit. Installation is easy if you have experience with electrical at all and as long as you have a neutral wire. App is responsive and the switch connected to my Hubitat easily once I sorted out the problem with Apple HomeKit. If you do not have Apple HomeKit and want to set this up using an iOS device make sure you turn off WiFi assist. For some reason if that isn’t disabled my iPhone forces me to try to set it up using HomeKit instead of directly through the WeMo app, and since I don’t have HomeKit set up (or even available) this was a big issue for me. Disabling that allowed setup via the app as expected.

WeMo user for over several years and like the product and how they perform.
This recent purchase of the WeMo 3 way light switch replaced a single pole WeMo light switch that I had jimmy rigged to work on a three way switch at the time which I do not recommend that you do, best to hire a professional electrician.
The WeMo 3 way worked out so much better than the single pole switch that it replaced. Best Buy had a double pack on sale at the time of purchase and by only regret is that I didn’t purchase two at the price at that time.
Another great buy from Best Buy.

Attractive & easy with powerful scheduling control

WEMO smart light switches have always been a good way to bring smart lighting to your home without the need for special bulbs or control hubs. Just replace the existing light switch and everything connected to it can now be controlled from the app. These switches however were limited to replacing single pole light switches (where a single switch controls a set of lights). This new 3-way capable WEMO switch solves the problem, allowing you to control lights that are wired to two separate light switches (such as opposite ends of a hallway), and it works very well.
One important point to note is that although these come in a two pack, you do NOT need to replace both switches in a 3-way setup. Replacing either of the existing two switches allows you to control the light correctly and both switches still working when used manually. You CAN connect a WEMO on both ends, and the app setup process specifically checks for this, but it’s not necessary.
Pros:
- Relatively straightforward installation with no special bulbs or hubs required
- Much improved reliability of the app pairing / setup process
- Excellent scheduling control
- Excellent third part smart home support including Alexa, Google, and IFTTT
- Powerful “long press” rules can control almost anything
- Attractive design
Cons:
- When re-installing a face plate for over the light switch, its easy to accidentally push the reset button which can require you to repeat the setup process.
- Not really WEMO’s fault, but installation requires a common wire and some comfort working with electrical wiring.
- Pairing and setup is much better, but still not as seamless as that used by some competitors.
Installation and Setup
Installation the switch involves turning off the relevant breaker and replacing the existing light switch with the WEMO unit. This can typically be accomplished with a screwdriver and some patience and the kit includes everything you should need to connect to the existing wiring. The instructions were clear and well illustrated, and a sticker is included to mark the line/load wire and avoid wiring mistakes.
NOTE: You must have a common wire for WEMO switches to work. A common wire is not required for a regular light switch, but these smart switches require it in order to draw power. In our home, the common is present but not connected in the light switch boxes, but you may want to check this before buying.
Once the switch is installed, the app will walk through the process of adding it to the WEMO app. This involves connecting your phone to a special WIFI network that the WEMO switch creates and then running the app so it can tell the switch your regular WIFI setup information. I’ve previously found the setup process for WEMO switches to be touchy and failure prone, but these new devices both worked perfectly the first time and with no drama.
Functionality
Once setup, the WEMO app provides the usual excellent and robust array of control and scheduling capabilities, including the ability to turn lights on and off a certain time before or after sunrise and sunset as determined by local weather reporting. This is a great feature that avoids wasting power and ensures you need never come home to a dark house. Other notable features include a randomized mode meant to simulate human occupancy by turning various lights you select on and off at random intervals.
In addition to app control, the lights are perfectly integrated with Google Assistant and Alexa. In fact, our Alexa spoke up each time the new switch came online to notify us that a new device was available for control.
For more advanced users, you can program “long press” rules to trigger when you hold down the light switch. These can also invoke IFTTT rules if you like, so the sky is the limit when it comes to what you can control from a long press.
Conclusion
I think WEMO provides one of the best and most mature entry points to add smart lighting to your home in a way that doesn’t require any technical expertise from the occupants. No hubs or special bulbs – just a light switch the works the way it’s always worked, but now with a world of new control and convenience options available.

Decent smart switch

I ended up using this wemo switch for a set of lights that I couldn’t use with hue bulbs (due to enclosed light fixtures). If I had to choose between those two options I’d always choose the hue bulbs because they require minimal setup/ installation and are just easier to use. My main complaint with this switch is the amount of time it takes to install and the fact that the switch is almost too large to fit in a standard box with existing wires. It won’t sit flush with the wall because there’s just too much packed into the light box at this point.

This is my second time buying wemo switch for my smart home system. They work exceptionally well with google assistant. Only thing to watch out is to never update the wemo app. This might get fixed over time but current most updated version of the app is not stable and will lose the connection with the switches from time to time and re-connection is not so easy. Installation is easy but you might need to mess around with diffetent switch face plates if your switch is double or triple gang as they might not be flush when installed.

I’ve installed 8 pairs of these throughout my house. Extremely convenient for stairwells and long hallways. Easy to install and network/connect. The indicator light is the perfect brightness that makes it easy to locate the switch in the dark, almost like a night-light, but not so bright as to disrupt sleep when installed in a bedroom. I’ve installed 60 WeMo Switches and 14 WeMo Smart Plugs throughout my home. Very reliable and easy to use system. Love the Apple HomeKit integration. Highly recommended.

We made it work

We had a regular 3-way switch with a 3-way dimmer. We wanted to use the WeMo 3-way with the original 3-way dimmer. The WeMo 3-way needed a 120V line, but the 3-way dimmer was using it. We had to move the dimmer to make it work. Now we can control our lights and have a dimmer on the same circuit. Note that the WeMo takes up a lot more volume than a regular 3-way, so it was a task to stuff all the wires back into the junction box.

I had to replace my insignia switch after bestbuy discontinued the product line. They sent me a credit for each switch I purchased, so I decided to buy wenos switchedls to replace them. I was familiar with the setup and wiring uninstall was a snap. They were easily set up in the app, if you know what you are doing. Very reliable and pick up the network quickly. I have no complaints at all. They were easily synced with my google home platform in my smart home. I recommend these to anyone that wants a reliable smart switch. The black Friday price was awesome too!

I've had wemo switches for some time now and been waiting for the 3 way so that I don't have to switch apps. I had hoped they looked similar to the old style so that all my 4 switches on my one panel looked the same. I haven't had them installed for long so I'll have to see how they work, but overall they seem to be doing fine.
I know that the early wemo switches had issues, but those have been working fine for the past couple of years.
