Whenever there were local electrical company power outages, the intercom powered by AC would not come back on when electrical power was restored. Using the Wemo app on my iPhone I could re-enable the intercom system remotely.

The Wemo devices are designed to be in an OFF state after a power outage for safety purposes. This is to avoid an influx of electricity going into the device that may damage it once the power comes back. This one is a big improvement over their first generation bulky plugs. The App works well and it integrates well with Alexa. These are a bit pricier than other knockoff brands, but I trust Belkin to stay on top of firmware updates more than the cheap Chinese brand plugs.
