Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent convection cooking and ease of use of this over-the-range microwave. Many appreciate its quiet operation, attractive design, and the helpful sensor cooking feature. However, some users mention concerns about the sturdiness of the door and find the control panel somewhat challenging to navigate. The microwave's weight and the keypad's functionality are also mentioned as areas needing improvement.

I purchased this microwave in February 2019. It has worked ok until today October 27th 2020 when the door panel started separating from the door. Best buy said it is out of warranty. Found this review of a person on youtube experiencing the same issue: https://youtu.be/wShAqtPBj-s

    Good but Buggy

I in general love Whirlpool products, but this one leaves a little to be desired. Pros: Extremely good exhaust fan flow (vented outside) and good convection oven (comes in handy around the holidays. The door on the other hand is the con. After just a few months, the door will close and the microwave will not reset, resulting in having to unplug, and reprogram clocks. sometimes we continue to get the warning to open, then close the door, butthis does not always work. You just get caught in a loop of setting the cook time, and closing door to find you have to open, then close the door again and again. I think it is a sensor problem in the door itself. Also was not able to set-up Wi-Fi even after calling the unhelpful whirlpool help line. Finally, the unit stopped working and the door will not close and latch. upon inspection the latch mechanism on the case that the door latch goes into is now missing and presumably inside the unit somewhere. I am waiting to have this fixed at my own expense as it is out of warranty.

Can't Believe All the Great Reviews

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Yes, it looks very nice, and seems to have a lot of features. However, there are a couple big issues we've had in the month that we've owned this (originally bought from BestBuy but it was damaged upon delivery and needed it same day because my contractors were at the house, so had to get it somewhere else). These issues have resulted in not only getting rid of the microwave, but avoiding Whirlpool altogether in replacing it. First, it focuses WAY too much heat on the center. Like, if you try to cook bacon (yes, I know, gross, but it's a good example of the problem), it will literally burn to blackness the slices in the center while the outside slices are raw. But it's not like you can just cook it for less time -- 3/4 of the food is still raw. And if it's doing that for bacon, it's doing that for every food. The "bacon" setting on the microwave is just a timer feature, not a power feature (it still horribly overcooks the center). This happens even if you leave the center unoccupied ... you can see that there is far less cooking on the perimeter than in the center. I understand that all microwaves work like this (cooking from the center out), but this one is EXTREME, and I've never experienced it in any other microwave going back decades. Second, this microwave has a feature that cannot be disabled, that automatically turns the vent on to high when it detects a lot of heat beneath it -- like, if you are boiling a pot or two of water below it. The manual says this is to prevent the microwave from overheating, but our last microwave lasted 15 years and never overheated or was damaged without this feature. And the fan runs forever, and cannot be turned off without unplugging the whole unit. So you get to sit through your dinner with a deafening roar from the fan. Totally unacceptable. Sorry, but this thing, while looking nice, is, functionally speaking, garbage. Stay away.

Overall pleased with the microwave. The sensor reheat typically takes either 3 or 6 minutes, depending on size. Pretty slow but works well. Once butter exploded on the melt butter setting and made a huge mess. The convection fan is very loud and the 2nd time I used it would not turn off when finished. Had to open door to stop. Other than these issues have been happy with microwave.

THRID TIME WASNT A CHARM! Don’t buy this unit!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Nice looking unit is the best thing going for it. The first unit came in with a dented door, ok let’s get a replacement. After 3 weeks the second one would keep telling you the door is open when it not. Unplug the unit and plug it back up in it would work good for a day or so. Then out of the blue it would ding like a meal is done and we aren’t using it. If that’s not enough at times you could even use the number part of the keyboard. Now we have to take this one back! Ok it time for the third one. Our luck didnt get any better. At the two week mark problems again. The door sensor is telling me again that the door is open when it’s not. At least this time a different problem, maybe, the keypad will erase the first number you enter and replace it with the second number. Needless to say this one is going back also. The worst part is it can’t even cook popcorn to save it life. Our 15 year old unit from sears cooked it perfect evertime. It’s time for a different brand. The lowest number should be zero not 1 start.

Functionally ok but Design and Install is Terrible

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Functionally, this is a decent microwave. The features and quiet operation are among the better that I've seen. That being said, for a $500 microwave, the construction/design and installation were horrible. I went to install and the softness of the mounting bolt metal led to it getting cross-threaded very easily. When it locked up, the mounting nut popped into the microwave because of a cheap clip mount. I had to cut the mounting bolt in half just to remove the microwave so that I could try and fix the situation. I ended up having to remove the outer casing and hunt for the nut that was now lost inside the unit. After about 20 minutes of searching, I found it and was able to remove it. The installation instructions state that you can get another size bolt at any hardware store if you need to. Not so at all. Home Depot, Ace, and Lowe's didn't have bolts like these or replacement nuts anywhere. I ended up having to buy a tapping set for $60 so that I could retap the nut and bolts just to get the microwave mounted! The mounting of a rectangular nut is super cheap and unreliable and should not be used on such an expensive microwave. Clearly, it was Whirlpool trying to save some bucks in the design. Now that I have it mounted, the top sags under the weight because there are two rectangular nuts against a sheet metal casing holding the whole thing up! Now the cabinet above rubs on the bowed casing that looks as if it's going to give at any moment. Super shoddy and cheap design for such an expensive microwave. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy.

    Worst appliance purchase ever

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this to replace a GE convection microwave. Decided on this one for the sensor technology and clean look. 1st: the accupop was a big seller for me but it is useless. Using this feature either half cooks or burns a bag of popcorn. I use convection for baking and loved it on my GE. The convection on this product heats unevenly. The left side of anything I have baked is over cooked. The defrost feature has a few presets but manual can only be entered as 1lb. Overall reheating is uneven and takes longer than any microwave I have ever owned. The nightlight timer will only go on at the brightest setting. The main reason I would recommend passing on this product is the auto fan. This is ridiculously loud!! It goes on automatically when it senses it is too hot. I have never had a need for a fan on any microwave because I am cooking on my stove or my oven is on. It cannot be turned off manually and runs for atleast 30min. This is a nuisance especially at mealtimes! This is the only appliance I’ve ever bought and can say there is nothing I like about this purchase.

Functionally good, doesn't hold up over time

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Features-wise it's a good microwave, lot of bells and whistles. How it holds up over-the-oven probably depends on how much heat it gets from below since the stainless steel is just a light covering over plastic, and over time i noticed the plastic part of the door starts to crack barely one-year in. Other reviews cite this as well, like I shouldn't have to get a minor cut when all I want to do is heat up is something.

Our microwave overheats every time I have my stove on and multiple pots (think making garlic bread and spaghetti dinner night). We have had the repair people out multiple times and I am still waiting for them to "replace the door". I would not reccommend. I also get error codes and beeping where microwave will not work even when not cooking, I think some of the circuits are melted/fried. I don't think having the control panel over the oven is good design.
