We are looking for 28+ CF unit, don't want to spend $3000 for a french door unit, therefore, we decided to go for this 28.4 side by side. Here is the information I want to share: 1) The unit does make some humming noise, you can hear it when you are alone at home, not very loud, but noticeable, my 20 years old refrigerator they just haul away made less noise. I guess all running machine does make some noise now a day. 2) The ice maker is loud during the process of refilling the water after the ice maker dump out the ice. it last about 4-5 seconds, It can wake you up if you sleep close to the refrigerator, lucky I sleep upstairs. 3) Ice maker is small, I buy an extra container and keep the ice as reserve. 4) After the initial 24 hours, I saw ice flakes formed up on the back wall (inside the unit) of the fresh food side of the refrigerator, my carrot is kind of frozen, they said the temperature was set at 37 degree, I adjust it to 38 degree, It seems to solve the problem. Will have to keep an eye on it. 5) Ice water is not super cold. 6) The light is at the back of the refrigerator, so, after you put stuff inside and block the light, the unit is kind of dark, my old unit the right is in the front, so, it is more bright. When they deliver and install the unit, they will advise you to keep it empty and running for 2 to 4 hours before you put your food inside, you need to get some coolers to keep your food, I was prepared for that, so, no problem for me. This is my input, hope this will help you make the decision of your choice.

I love this fridge so far. I bought it in August 2017. Whirlpool - 28.4 Cu. Ft. It is deep, sticks out a bit in the recessed area of my kitchen. It’s bright inside but if you put your “hello fresh” bags on the top shelf it darkens the whole fridge a bit. Just put them on a lower shelf. The ice maker is a bit noisy when it drops the ice and then you can hear the water run to fill it back up. But none of that bothers me at all. I guess I got used to to it, It’s not that noticeable any more. I’m surprised at some of the bad reviews. I love mine and I’m about to order the same one for my Dad. He’s 75 yo and never had water and ice on his fridge. The guys who delivered mine had to come in the backdoor, French doors, so we didn’t have to take the doors off, but they had to go up steep paver steps. They did a great job! Hats off to them, very cautious. The old one going out the same way gave them a bit of trouble going down the steps. Hope it was going to the dump! It was only 3 years old and would not make ice, the entire bottom of the freezer was solid ice, then it melted all over my kitchen, happened often. Those french door fridges have a great concept, but they’re not at all the same quality bottom freezers were 40 years ago, JUNK & OVERPRICED. Stick with good old side by side, I recommend this whirlpool. But I hope I don’t end up with any of the problems others complained about. So far so good, I’m happy with it. May 17, 2018

My initial impression and response to complaints I have read.. This is a nice looking, roomy refrigerator. It replaces a working 17 year old Whirlpool, still working fine. Old unit needed a few minor repairs over the years which I did myself with available parts. Will be well satisfied if this new ones does as well. The door mounted ice maker frees up freezer space. The ice cubes are about half the size of the old models cubes. Ice production seems a little slow, taking a long time to fill the small ice bin. Ice dispenser does make a loud gear whining sound when dispensing, tolerable but not pleasant. Some ice chips fly on cube mode, not bad, more so on crushed ice. Don't notice any objectionable noises otherwise. Has two feet in front you adjust down to prevent rolling. Must remove bottom trim with two screws to adjust these up to roll out for cleaning or service. Old one had snap on trim and would roll out when desired without adjusting any feet.

This refrigerator ended up being everything that I hoped it would be. It supplies my family of 4 plenty of ice and keeps everything cold. Has more than enough room for all of our food which often includes plenty of large carry out boxes. We are so happy that we waited for this unit to become available again. We had to wait almost 2 months for this to become available and as soon as it did we bought it. In our opinion there simply isn't another refrigerator available that combines a very reasonable price and large and well thought out interior that makes great use of available space! I don't need a digital display on the front of my refrigerator, I need it to keep my food cold! Great purchase!

LOVE! First time owner of side by side W/ice and water dispenser. I haven’t found the controller to dial for inside temp but it has been perfect so long as I remember to keep the vents from getting blocked. Biggest surprise is there is so much more room for everything

My wife and I really like this refrigerator. It's big, good looking, and with very good lighting. Best Buy had this in stock, when other chains did not, and handled the purchase and delivery perfectly, so we are happy with them too. I also called Whirlpool already with questions, and was delighted to speak to an American based call center, who were sharp and helpful; which was very different from my experience with my last refrigerator manufacturer. I do have two beefs. One beef is the factory specifications of this refrigerator show the width at 36 inches. Our opening was about 35.75, so I had my countertop tiles cut to make it slightly wider. When I got the new unit, It went right in and there was a lot of space. I measured the new refrigerator with my measuring tape and I see that the refrigerator is 35.5 inches wide. All that counter work was done for nothing.Whirlpool needs to check that. Also, the water dispenser gives you cool water, but not cold like my last refrigerator. Whirlpool said it would get colder after 24 hours, but it hasn't. Other than the above, this refrigerator is a solid 10.

This refrigerator has 3 more cubic feet of storage compared to a french door refrigerator of the same approximate physical dimensions. The water dispenser is fairly quick and the ice maker refills in a day. The zero clearance hinged doors are fantastic. Great refrigerator and Best Buy had a great price.

We bought this refrigerator in late December 2017 and it was installed the first week in January 2018. We appreciated the quality of the fridge right away - the non fingerprint showing stainless steel finish, the great lighting inside and the larger amount of storage vs our previous Whirlpool fridge. However, after owning this fridge for four years - over the holidays in December 2021 - the ice-maker stopped working. A technician came and replaced the ice-maker and we still have ZERO ice. We are going to have the fridge looked at again but we are very disappointed and frustrated and realize we may end up needing to buy a new refrigerator. If we can't get the ice-maker fixed satisfactorily and we do need to buy a new fridge, the new one will NOT ever be a Whirlpool again.

I have read many reviews of this frig. The complaints about noise are stupid. The motor is very quiet. The ice maker does make a lot of noise when it is dropping ice into the empty bin. But when the bin accumulates some ice cubs and the ice drops down onto other ice cubes the noise is very quiet. Best Buy delivered the frig and installed with no problem. I warned them that to get the frig into my house they would have to remove my front door they said: no problem, we do it all the time. They were right. Warning. When you first use the frig be sure to run at least a gallon of water from the water dispenser and discard, and throw away the first 3 batches of ice. The ice maker is in the door, which frees up a lot of space in the freezer. BUT. This makes the ice bin much smaller since it must also fit in the door. No problem for a family, but if you are planning a dinner party which requires a lot of ice plan ahead and store ice in a plastic bag.

Love the measured fill feature and the space. I was concerned about compressor/fan noise and was looking at more expensive brands, but this is as quiet as any other once it was set up and running for a couple days. There were some cosmetic issues (a little insulation poking out) and a crack in a door compartment upon arrival that I'll be reaching out to Best Buy about, but I'm keeping it 5 stars because the things I cared most about (measured fill, large, and quiet) are excellent.

Just had this model delivered and installed. No technical issues, but a few things we didn't notice when we bought it. It does not have a butter bin, even though there is a mounting point for one. According to Whirlpool, there isn't even a butter bin available for it. The service rep I spoke with said the model should have 2 gallon bins, and 3 "2 liter" bins, but ours came with 5 gallon bins. The paperwork that comes with the fridge does not include a "what's included" list or anything along those lines. A fairly comprehensive service parts list is easily found online, which is a plus. Seems pretty quite so far, and I would assume it would be noisiest when first plugged in and having to cool everything down from ambient temperature. Really, my biggest complaint is no option for a butter bin- I wouldn't mind having to buy one separately. There's a fair amount of wasted space on the door because of this, since there's a decent gap between the highest mount for a gallon bin and the mount for the non-existent butter bin.

Have had about a month and so far love it. Spacious. Love the icemaker placement. No negatives.

Spacious refrigerator with nice shelves and rolling drawers. Black stainless is stylish and does resist fingerprints better than glossy finish. Only gripe is that it does not have a dedicated egg tray.

I purchased this refrigerator in August of 2019 and I am just about to have the ice maker replaced for the second time. That means that I will have had 3 icemakers in the span of 3 years. The repairman said that although he recommended Whirlpool, he did not recommend this model. Told us it would happen again and sure enough, 10 months later, here we go again. Also, the refrigerator is noisy and I detest the dispenser unit on this model. It's very loud and you have to push the glass hard on the electronic pad since it's not a simple lever, the chilled water is never cold, and the metal piece that sits under the dispensers lost its finish quickly with hard water deposits. I am very disappointed and dissatisfied with this Whirlpool refrigerator.

Very happy with my purchase,it has plenty of freezer and refrigerator space. I also would like to add Ramone (I believe that is the delivery person.) was very plesant and very knowledgeable on installing refrigerator, and made sure Ice Maker and Water Dispenser were working before leaving.

I’m a bit disappointed with the quality of this refrigerator. The rear left of the refrigerator tends to frost, even when I adjust the temperature. The ice maker drips water after you’re done using it. It is also exceptionally loud when in use. You’ll wake up your whole family if you want to get ice water in the middle of the night. The ice maker struggles to dispense crushed ice. You’ll be disappointed if you’re an ice lover, as the ice is extra difficult to chew on, even in its crushed state. The craftsmanship of the unit is also disappointing because there’s visible glue around the fridge where they glued parts together. I love the size of the unit, but if you’re a person that pays attention to detail, this is not for you.

Have Had this Side by Side for 3 Days Now! To the contrary of what other people are saying. IT IS NOT NOISEY, The Ice Cubes are Just the right Size, Yes It makes a low huming noise after the Ice drops, But only for 15 Seconds. And NO you will not be hearing any weird Noises from the Refrig at Night. My Wife and I love the amount of room in the Unit. Forget the Few People you can never make totally satisfied. THIS SIDE BY SIDE WHIRLPOOL IS A WINNER. I do Suggest you Buy the Extended Warranty for Piece of Mind.

Overall, we are 95% pleased with this newly delivered refrigerator. Kudos to the team that delivered the refrigerator for Best Buy. They were extremely careful not to bump into door frames and other obstacles as they made their way to the space for the refrigerator. They were also diligent in ensuring all areas were leveled, refrigerator itself and checking that the tops of doors were even with each other as well as the tops of handles being even with each other. Thank you Best Buy for hiring this team to handle deliveries. We like having the ice maker in the door of the freezer, freeing up a whole shelf. We like that the water filter is inside the refrigerator, not having to get down on the floor to change it out. We like that it is fairly quiet except for when the water fills up the ice tray and when water is accessed from the door to fill a glass but that doesn't occur repeatedly. We like the no fingerprint finish on the doors. We do not like that the refrigerator shelves are not able to be adjusted to our needs. We do not like that one of the shelves is so lacking in height that not even a 5 oz can of a soft drink can clear the shelf above it. An easy fix would have been to take an inch in height from each of the substantial fruit and vegetable bins to make that height lacking shelf usable. WRS588fihz replaced a 15 year old Whirlpool side by side as it had had 2 repairs in the last couple of years and had now lost the dispensing function of ice cubes through the door. It was still keeping things cold and making ice cubes (had to have the ice maker replaced in the last 2 years) but we were on notice that it was aging. Hoping this one does Whirlpool proud once again!

I love the fridge it works great. Ample room for all of my groceries. The price point of the refrigerator was an incredible value. I was looking at a much more expensive refrigerator and this one suits my needs much better than the expensive model. Extremely pleased with my purchase.

We replaced a dying and broken Samsung fridge with this Whirlpool a few weeks ago. We love all the clear shelving, the drawers roll in and out really easily, and it just has a ton of space. The ice maker, with it's excellently sized smallish ice cubes, works great and can keep up with our family of 4.
