Washer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this washer and a couple months later it doesn't work. Whirlpool isn't a good brand I found out. It needs repaired or replaced and getting someone to look at it. Is like pulling teeth.

Poor performer

Good for a tight budget
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here's what I know about the washer, five months after purchase, averaging four loads weekly: If I want to wash a load in hot water, I use super wash, heavy duty, or bulky cycles. More cold water mixes in with other cycles set to hot in order to meet government mandates. Auto sense does work. My clothes do get covered in enough water. I've found that auto sense generally works for loads that weigh at least 4 pounds. I've even gotten away with putting three hoodies, totalling 3 pounds, with auto sense still kicking in. Anything less that 4 pounds usually results in a tub full of water. I cannot use the same soak water for the wash. At the end of the soak cycle, the "done" light is on and I can't start another cycle until I open the lid. Opening the lid results in the water draining. As for stopping the machine in the middle of a wash cycle to do a soak, anything beyond ten minutes will result in the machine draining when "start" is pressed. The machine generally works well. At the time, when I needed to buy a washer, I was looking at a Roper, but the Roper had no softener dispenser. This Whirlpool, on the other hand, was the next best cost-effective washer with a softener dispenser. I use the dispenser quite often. It's more convenient than having to watch the machine until it starts the rinse cycle to put in the softener. One star was taken away for a glitch. I've found that when I run the casual cycle, the tub fills with less water that what is needed. That, and ANY cycle run thereafter uses far less water than what is necessary. My workaround for this glitch is to run the clean washer cycle to set the water level calibration back to where it needs to be and to never, ever, run the casual cycle. I now use the normal cycle in place of the casual cycle because of this. As cost effective as this machine, I would still recommend it.

Great washer - Whirlpool
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whirlpool is a great and reliable washer brand. Top load washers are best. This washer has withstood about 5 years with us! Just needs to be hooked up with the appropriate water pressure for best function ability.

You get what you pay for...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I guess you get what you pay for. I chose this model for the price, and I got about 18 months of use out of it before it started leaking... To be fair, I wash a lot of laundry and have teenagers that probably overload it from time to time. We should probably have a commercial-grade machine, really. And, on a positive note, the machine is easy to use.

Decent washer for the price, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At 51, I realize that things have changed over the years and some not for the better. This washer takes a while to wash heavy duty stuff. I knew when I looked at it (and all others) that the amount of room for the tub to move was too much by a long shot. My mother's washer tub didn't have range of the ENTIRE inside of the machine housing. It bangs against the wall -- you can actually see it move! There is no lint trap at the top to catch lint. The lint goes back in the washer and on your clothes/whatever you washed. If there was a large amount of lint or animal hair (washing their bedding, take a hair remover to it first) on your things...clean it first with a lint brush or whatever you have. Who is the idiot washer engineer that did away with $2 worth of plastic to keep this from happening? The auto-fill on this one seems to work. I understand why there is a locking mechanism (some idiot put their hand/head/kid in there while it was turning and got hurt) but you cannot help with leveling of items when it's rocking and rolling trying to get bulky things level; it just keeps banging away until adding water and turning gets it leveled. Otherwise, it holds a lot of clothes, the hot water is hot and the different settings work well. Finally, about the process of getting to review something on this website -- it's ridiculous. It took me more time to sign up and get to here than to write my review.

I won't ever buy Whirlpool again.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had Whirlpool Appliances for over 25 years. Back in 2010 I purchased a Whirlpool Washer and Dryer and they had problems since we bought them. I didn't want to purchase Whirlpool again but my family insisted that is what we should go with and you don't go against the lady of the house. Well, how do I put this lightly in words appropriate on here? Let's just say you shouldn't have a Washer that vibrates so much that it can cause Earthquakes in Japan. Not only that, but it doesn't agitate enough to get the clothes clean nor does it rinse them well at all. I've checked the leveling, played with the settings and everything I could think of to no avail. American Made is cheaply made. Everything is made of plastic except the drum and shell. The water saving feature makes you use more water and energy because you can't just use one wash. Half of the time it won't even pause the cycle nor cancel the cycle. If you do cancel the cycle it won't let you just start the cycle like older models but rather drains completely and you have to restart. You need to add softener directly (which means you must time the cycle just right) because where you add softener, it just makes more of a glob of residue inside your washing machine rather than actually gets the softener in the clothes. The only way to clean it is to dismantle your washing machine. This has just been a giant headache and disappointment. There was a time when American Made meant something but in this case it is an American Don't.

Don't buy it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Doesn't drain when washing medium sized blankets, you have to always put the detergent in first, no place for softener so you have to run back to put it in, the lid locks so if you forget something, you basically have to wait or hold the button to cancel which confuses the whole cycle. It takes forever to wash clothes now and they don't really come clean. Best setting is deep water clean with two rinses on heavy. Very unhappy. Whoever designed this washer has never washed clothes.

Defective
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wasted hard earned money on this junk. The washer model # WTW4816FW is nothing but garbage. It won't even fill with enough water to cover your clothes. I've tried it on every cycle and I ended up having to repeatedly lift the door to force enough water into the machine to cover the clothes. It barely agitates, and auto-sensing is a joke, it will sometimes fill the entire machine with water even when there are only a few articles of clothing at the bottom of the machine. The warranty is also a joke, yes, Whirlpool will send out a repair person, but never fix the problem. I've had several repairmen come out and fiddle around with the knob, lift the top to look inside, let water in and back out, then say they don't know what's wrong because it seems to be doing what it's supposed to be doing, that it's just the way the new washers are. Before leaving they'll say, call back if you're still having problems. They leave with the problems being unresolved, so I call Whirlpool back to complain that same the problems still exist and all they do is offer to send out another repair person after explaining to me that the water not covering the clothes, the machine barely agitating, and the machine's auto-sensing not working, is just new technology. I've been played by Whirlpool, but never again!!! Fool me once!

DON'T BUY A WHIRLPOOL WASHER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DON'T BUY THIS WASHER. Purchased this washer in March 2023. It was not used very often. Approximately once every two weeks. Quit working in November 2024. Had service out and the control panel needs to be replaced. Cost of approximately $400 on a washing machine that is less than two years old.

LOUD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It does what it's supposed to as far as washing, but I wouldn't buy this if your laundry area is on the same floor as your living space. This thing is LOUD. My laundry room is off of my kitchen, and it sounds like NASA is launching a rocket in there everytime I wash clothes!
