The Litter Robot itself is an amazing product. I have had a LR 2, and LR 3. I got a new cat and wanted to upgrade. Litter Robot allows you to return within 90 days if you aren't satisfied. My new cat refused to use the 4. I was denied my return because it wasn't in a "like-new condition." I also noticed that it was cracked after in initially got it but didn't notice it right away because the crack was hidden below the step where the cats climb in. Best Buy sucks. The service from Litter Robot is INCREDIBLE. I wish I had followed my instincts and ordered it direct. The cost is exactly the same, but the level of service offered by Best Buy is extremely lacking. Bottom line: Do not but it from Best Buy. Buy it directly from Litter Robot!

I bought this because I’ve been a cat owner for almost 15 years…and wasn’t looking for an easy way out, but possibly a way to help me travel. This litter box has been a nightmare. There’s a flaw in the front that pools urine, and the box stops moving on its on volition. There’s apparently a design flaw in this model…I can speak to that. The pooling of urine this device has manifested has made me and my family sick. Money clearly can’t buy you happiness.

Thank you for the review! We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your Litter-Robot. Most issues can be resolved with simple troubleshooting. Each Litter-Robot 4 will come with a pre-installed fence; The Fence helps reduce litter tracking out of the globe and also prevents urine leaking out of the globe. The design of the Fence has been updated from its original design based on feedback from our customers. If you haven’t yet, please contact us at support@whisker.com or 877-250-7729. it has been malfunctioning for a week. I have chatted and called support multiple times to little avail. Finally, today they are sending me a new base which I get to install myself and then troubleshoot, starting the process all over again. Not sure if I would spend $700 on this cat box given the current level of disfunction.

Automatic/self-cleaning litter box. If you have a cat (or many cats), you have either used one or really wanted one. We have used them for the greater majority of the last 22 years or so for our 1-4 cats during that time. Some have been good, some not so good, some were even a good idea, but badly implemented, and some were the greatest thing ever. The one that falls under the "greatest thing ever" is the Litter Robot. We have used Litter Robots off and on for almost 20 years, starting with their first model. Over the years, we have also gotten the Litter Robot 2 (12 years ago, "LR2") and Litter Robot 3 "Open Air" (7 years ago, "LR3"). While the LR2 and LR3 are still working great (only got the LR3 for its bigger opening to try to help with issues we had with one of our cats), the updated design of the Litter Robot 4 has intrigued us. With one of our newer cats (who is a little bigger than any cat we've had before) having some issues even with wider opening of the LR3, we decided to give finally give the Litter Robot 4 a try. Unboxing and setup is extremely easy. Even though I was very familiar with Litter Robots, just the phrases they put the different parts of the packaging while being opened show the confidence level in their product, such as "Best. Day. Ever. For you and your cat(s)." (which I already knew). The whole Litter Robot comes protected in a fabric bag. After it is out, it is simple as setting it in its place, add litter (NOTE: there is a line in the liner that indicates where to fill it up to. DO NOT fill above it as it will overflow into the waste bin when it runs a cleaning cycle (previous one models did this as well)), and either plug it and turn it on (so that you can get it connected to WiFi and the Whisker app, which requires being able to scan the QR code on the back of the Litter Robot), or leave it off so your cat(s) can get acquainted with it. There is a great quick start video on their website if you need help with anything and to learn how to make setting changes using the control panel or the Whisker app. If you are (or not) familiar with the Litter Robot 3 or earlier models, there is the globe with an entry port that sits on top of the base, When it detects that is has been used, a motor in the base starts to rotate the globe after a set amount of time (7-8 minutes by default), the litter is sifted (and temporarily stored) and the clumps eventually fall into the waste drawer in the base. It returns back to the initial position, putting the litter back into place and is ready to be used again. For the Litter Robot 4, which is almost completely redesigned, they made the opening almost as wide as the globe (which could be considered a "drum" but is still called a globe), kind of like a front-load washer. When it is in cleaning mode, you no longer see the outside moving as it is now fully contained in a cover. The biggest improvement I've noticed is with the motor. It is so quiet!!! The older models had gotten somewhat quieter with each generation, but we could still hear it down the somewhat long hallway. Now, I can barely hear it standing next to it. Another thing that has changed is the detection method. Previously, it would require the cat to be heavy enough to trigger a contact switch in the one of the feet of the Litter Robot. There were quite a few times that our lightest cat (who only weighed just over 7lbs for a long while, but has gained quite a bit over the last year, so no longer had a problem setting the sensor off) wouldn't set it off, so it wouldn't run. Now, it has an entry motion sensor at the top near the front of the opening. This is great way to ensure that all cats are detected, but it does also still have weight detection (which it mentions that the cat(s) to be at least 3lbs in weight to use the automatic cleaning functionality). But this sensor is also where I felt it had a small step back from the LR3. In the LR3, they made an improvement by putting the weight sensor on the back foot, so the curious kitties could stand on the front step and watch it rotate (LR1 and LR2 had the sensor near the front so would stop each time any cat stood on the step). With the new motion sensor, the angle of it seems to aim a little too far to the front now, so if any cat just stuck their head in to take a peek at what is going on, it will detect it and stop the rotation for a while (and we can tell it has happened quite a few times thanks to the Whisker app). I just noticed and installed a new firmware update (v2.84) that mentions it has enhanced the logic to eliminate cycle interruptions, so we'll see if that does help. The Whisker app is a nice addition! I never added the WiFi connection to the LR3, so this was the first time to use it. As mentioned earlier, it can be used to make any of the control changes (such as wait time, night light, etc.), perform the firmware updates and to see how often and when it has been used. The data can be downloaded as a PDF or as CSV File (if you like to play with data :) The Litter Robot 4 has a built-in scale that reports through the app. It seems fairly accurate, but there have been 3 times where it was really low (not sure if they just stepped in with the front paws the backed out or what). As of this moment, they are working on a new feature that can tell you which cat has entered by weight (as long as they all don't weigh the same). I have already set up the pet profiles with their weights to be ready for when that feature becomes available. There is a sensor in the waste drawer area that will tell you how full the drawer is. And the sensors in the globe will let you know if there is still enough litter (in case you don't take a look at it too often). While this is designed to go as long as you'd like without doing a deep clean (as long as you keep the litter levels up), it is still recommended to run the Empty cycle (where it pours the litter into the waste drawer, so make sure there is enough room in there) and clean out the globe once it looks to be getting too dirty. To make it easier to wipe out the globe (or to take it outside and use a hose on it since there are no electronics in the globe itself), open the bonnet and pull out the globe. After cleaning and it has dried, replace the globe in the base, close the bonnet and add new litter. So, yes, these are, at least for me and my family, the best set of self-cleaning litterboxes available (and we have used quite a few, especially between LR1 and getting the LR2). Even so, just like your favorite vehicle or appliance, sometimes an issue or two will pop up. This is where their support team shows that they are there for you. Whenever we've run into those issues (which were less and less with each new model), they have always been there to help. Whether it was during the warranty period (which they quickly sent out replacement parts when necessary), or just past, they have always provided the steps to help troubleshoot the issues and provide the options to fix. That's how the LR2 and LR3 have still worked so well all this time. The units have modular, easy access designs that make replacing any parts very easy. The Litter Robot 4 comes with a 1-year WhiskerCare warranty (a real FULL warranty, not limited), but it can be extended to a full 3 years for $100. Also, be sure to keep the shipping box if possible in the hopefully unlikely event that it needs to be shipped back, or for some reason it doesn't work out for you and your cat(s) and can return it for a full refund withing 90 days (you will, however, need to pay for the return shipping). While there are quite a few self-cleaning litter boxes out there, even some recent ones that may be quite a bit similar to the Litter Robot, the Litter Robot team has definitely used the 22+ years of experience and customer feedback to design and create an extremely great product to help clean up after your cat(s) (at least we think so!)!!!

Okay. The Whisker Litter-Robot 4 is a total game changer. Right out of the box, the setup, connection to WiFi, and first use were a breeze. The design and engineering of this are simple…and simply amazing. My hope is that, especially at this price point, it will last for years. Outside of the internal electric motor with its forward and reverse transmission, I don’t know why it wouldn’t. It may seem a bit silly, but it’s fascinating to watch as it goes through the motions and does its thing. For all intents and purposes, it comes fully assembled and ready for you to place in your desired location. Just make sure it’s within reach (5-6 ft.) of an electrical source. Place the liner in the poop drawer, slide it in, add the correct amount of litter, and now you’re ready to go through the simple wifi connection, giving you full control and information on your phone with the Whisker app. Adding the litter was almost too easy. You’ll need about 10 pounds of standard kitty litter — and that’s just about how it comes packaged from our favorite big box store. Purrfect. After just one week, I can tell that we are going to be saving some money on litter. The usage seems to be a lot less. Probably because the whole system is much more exact and efficient. I swear, when you first fire this thing up, you’re going to want to call all your friends and family to gather ‘round and watch this thing in action! It’s that amazing. We have 2 cats — one 11 yr old big boy, and one 21 yr old petite lady. He has taken right to the Litter-Robot. She…not so much. That’s a work in progress. After he uses it, and when he’s off in some other room, when he hears it begin it’s cleaning cycle (we have it on a 7 min delay from when the cat finishes), he goes running to watch — he’s that intrigued! If he sticks his head in the opening, everything immediately stops. Whisker has thought of everything. No accidents here. The sensors won’t allow it. Once he pulls his head out, the Litter-Robot continues on after a 30-sec delay. Ingenious. Through the use of the app, the well-thought engineering shines. The Litter-Robot 4 informs you of usage. It lets you know the litter level and when you need to add more. It lets you know when the poop drawer is getting full and needs to be dumped. It gives you a readout of the cat’s weight. This tells us, because our cats are so much different in size, which one is using the box. It allows you to control the ceiling light. Yes, I said ceiling light — a soft glow LED for those nighttime pit stops. Whisker seems intent upon giving you the red carpet treatment, especially during the first year. Any issues are handled with absolutely no cost to you. I like that. I like this whole setup. It saves my back. It saves me from any perceived humiliation from the power my cats think they have over me, knowing that I am the one who must clean up after them…whenever they feel like it. Hah! We’ll show them!

Alright, so i been using the Litter Robot 4, for the last month now. 1st it has beeen amazing to not scoop again, no more cat poop smell. Easy to use and really easy to fallow instructions on 1st day setup. 1 main issue we have had is we tend to completely turn of our robot and we manually turn it on for a cycle. Well when you do that it will cycle and act weird and then wont turn off, so you have to double click the off button to fully shut off and it will act weird not knowing what to doand then it will turn off. Turning the robot power on is not the issue, its just when attempting to turn it off completely. Another downside is the price, i do agree with the price of this thing and i do not think that the "DeAls" they promote really save you any sort of money, so for the value i think this should be at max $500 and no more. Note: Before you power on your robot, i will recommend to put litter in the robot 1st and let your cat explore amd if possible lit them do there buisness 1st before attempting to power it on, it might scare off your cat and will be difficult to have them explore it and use it if its scared right away. I made that mistake and one of my cats of two decided to not go in and use the litter robot for the 3 weeks, progress has been made, but it had me stressing the last month thinking this was not going to work. The 2nd cat loves the robot, so no complaints from that one. if you have a large cat this is probably the only option you have, but if you have a mid-small cat other alternatives are out there for a cheaper price. Overall 4/5 stars, still think the price is to steep

After owning all prior models, Gen 4's a big leap!

Love my litter robots! In fact, I've owned ever version including the latest, Gen 4. Gen 4 is a great improvement in design over the prior models. While they all work similarly, the 4 has learned from the last model, improving the reliability of cat sensing (3 had some issues identifying litter level vs cat at times) and is all around easier to use. I like having each of my cats weighed by the unit, making it obvious which cat has been in there last, as well as checking up that they've been eating enough and keeping weight on. The new interior light is vastly improved and my cats seem more confident in navigating within it. The newer style barrier at the front has reduced litter tracking as well. Love it so far! (Oh, and it's much quieter than gen3!) Gen 4 is the way to go. These are a lifesaver and worth every penny for your saved time and attention. Nevermind those knock-offs, litter robot is the original and one to get, and still designed and produced in the USA!

The Litter Robot 4 is a state-of-the-art automated litter box that promises convenience and cleanliness for cat owners. With its innovative design and advanced features, it aims to simplify the task of litter box maintenance. As an owner of three cats, I have experienced the benefits and convenience this product brings to my daily life. However, I have encountered a few minor issues that have affected my overall experience, particularly when I'm away. One of the standout features of the Litter Robot 4 is its remarkable convenience. Setting up the unit was a breeze, and my cats adapted to the new litter box seamlessly. The transition from a traditional litter box to the Litter Robot 4 was surprisingly smooth, and all three of my cats started using it right away. The Litter Robot 4's cleaning mechanism is a game-changer for cat owners. The self-cleaning process eliminates the need for constant scooping and ensures a clean litter bed for my cats at all times. The unit automatically sifts through the litter after each use, efficiently separating the waste from the clean litter and depositing it into a convenient drawer below. This feature has significantly reduced the unpleasant odor associated with traditional litter boxes and has saved me valuable time and effort. One issue I encountered with the Litter Robot 4 is that the sensors seemed to be affected by my cats' fur. Occasionally, the sensors would fail to detect the presence of a cat, causing the unit to cycle unnecessarily or not at all. This issue was particularly noticeable when my cats shed heavily. While it didn't happen frequently enough to be a major concern, it would be beneficial for the company to address this potential obstacle in future iterations of the product. While the Litter Robot 4 generally performs flawlessly during day-to-day usage, I did encounter an issue when I went away for a weekend. Upon returning home, I discovered the litter box full of waste and the unit stuck, requiring manual intervention to get it to cycle properly. This unexpected situation was slightly distressing, as I had expected the unit to function reliably even when I was not present. While it was an isolated incident, it has left me with concerns about the unit's performance during extended periods of absence. Despite the minor issues I encountered, I believe the Litter Robot 4 is an excellent product that brings convenience and cleanliness to the lives of cat owners. Its ease of use and efficient cleaning mechanism have made my daily litter box maintenance a hassle-free experience. While the sensor issue with fur interference and the isolated incident during my absence have given me some cause for concern, they do not overshadow the overall benefits this product provides. With further improvements, particularly in addressing the performance during absence, the Litter Robot 4 could be an unbeatable solution for cat owners seeking a hands-off approach to litter box maintenance.

Let me just come right out of the gate and say that this piece of machinery is AMAZING! Okay, now allow me to explain why the Whisker Litter Robot 4 is amazing. Litter box upkeep can be time-consuming. Especially if you have more than one cat. Between the actual scooping and then the actual changing of the litter box is something that a lot of us don’t like to do. I remember the electric litter boxes from the early 2000s where they self-scooped using an elongated rake that pushed the ‘grumpy’ into a waste bin. Those seem archaic compared to the modern-day Whisker Litter Robot. This device is going to make your feline upkeep a whole lot smoother. Set-Up: The Whisker 4 is not overwhelming to set up. Mine was connected and ready to go in about 15 minutes. There’s nothing complex to assemble. Remove the Whisker 4 from the box, fill it with the litter, plug it in, and then sync it with the app. Easy. Performance: Now this is where the Whisker Litter Robot shines with its services. The Whisker keeps detailed track of the litter box activities. Through the app, you are provided with the day and time of use history, and how many times a day the Whisker is used. You will be reminded if the filter needs to be replaced, or if the waste bin is getting full. And if you have more than one cat, the Whisker 4 will even provide the weight(s) of each cat that used it. This feature is fantastic if you might be needing to keep track of a particular cat’s potty habits but have three cats using one litter robot. So, if you have three cats that each weigh differently then the app will provide a weight readout for whoever used the Whisker at 2 in the afternoon using the SmartScale feature. We all know that kitties are a curious lot. And that curiosity will come into play when the Whisker robot starts to cycle (emptying itself). But there’s no need to worry, there’s no threat of harm with the Whisker robot. My cat, Slinky, is VERY curious each time the Whisker starts to cycle and she will stick her head in it. The cycle process detects movement and immediately stops, and then waits until there’s no more movement. In fact, there have been a couple of times when Slinky has decided that it’s fun to jump into the Whisker during its cycle and wants to ‘play’ inside. No harm ever comes to the cat. And through the app, it’s noted when a cycle has been interrupted. Up Keep: With the old-school litter boxes, cleaning was always an exhausting event because you had to empty the dirty litter, scrape the bottom, hose it out, and dry the box before refilling it. With the Whisker robot, it’s SUPER EASY to maintain. As I said before, the grumpies are emptied into a bottom drawer that’s lined with a bag. When the drawer is full, you easily pull it out, lift the bag and replace it with a fresh bag (several bags are initially provided). No scrubbing, and no getting your hands dirty. I’m aware that there are ‘bad days’ for even felines where they might have mess splatter where there’s no litter. The interior of the Whisker makes for easy cleaning for those unfortunate happenings. The Whisker Litter Robot 4 alleviates the chore of litter box upkeep. It’s like a bathroom butler for your kitties. Whether you have just one cat or more, the Whisker allows you to have more time to do other things or just have a moment to yourself. Technology is amazing and the Whisker 4 is a prime example of that.

I've had one for nearly a year now and when I saw Best Buy was carrying them (better financing deal and use my rewards?!) I ordered a second. I have issues with cats peeing outside litter boxes when stressed or if the box isn't 100% to their liking and the one box I have has helped eliminate that to an extent. The app helped identify an issue with my cat peeing too often and helped me identify which cat it was so I could take them to the vet. No more scooping, no more dogs raiding the box.

I recommend buying your own carbon filters that are cut to shape, rather than using the litter robot brand. Other carbon filter brands are cheaper and better. Dont bother using the cat litter that is available on their website, it doesn't contain urine odor that well and tracks everywhere. Try Arm & Hammer Double Duty unscented. Use regular 13 gallon trash bags for the waste draw. If your cats tend to pee up high on the wall, use pet wipes like Nature's Miracle, cleaning the walls will help with house smelling like urine. Depending on what you feed your cat(s) will also contribute to your cats waste smell and if it sticks to the inner lining of the litter robot. I recommend more natural ingredients in their diet. Stay away from friskies brand. The pee/litter guard that comes with the unit will need to be removed once and awhile to clean underneath, if your cat pees near the opening.

Well, I've had this for two weeks now but my cat hasn't used it yet. I tried the suggested procedures to begin with and finally removed her old box (which she seemed to enjoy using and marking with her smells) but with the warm weather we are currently experiencing she apparently prefers going outside to do her business. Her background may explain some of the situation. I didn't really plan to have a cat but a few years ago she started appearing in my backyard. My mom was always a cat freak so as a kid we always had several cats and I had been accustomed to them as friends as well as helping to care for them. When this cat (my cat?) started showing up in my yard I assumed she belonged to one of my neighbors and tried to make friends with her but she would always run away. That is until July 4th started to get near and my neighbors would start shooting off fireworks. On July 3rd she suddenly became very friendly and apparently decided to adopt me. I guess she had been a stray/feral cat for awhile but was unsure about me until then. I was a bit surprised but felt sorry for her so I let her stick around. She's a real sweetie so you can probably guess the rest. I was working at the time (I'm retired now) so I would always make sure she was out of the house when I left for work but when I got home she was usually waiting for me. I guess someone had trained her to use a box since she was glad to use it when inside. But she had been outside for a long time and so was used to the outdoors as well. I expect she will eventually start using this litter box especially when the weather starts changing but for now she seems content to go outside. She's not really afraid of it as I have put her in it several times but she just won't go in it yet. She just jumps back out a few seconds after I put her in. The Litter Robot seems well made and should contain the litter and smells much better than a basic box. She used to make quite a mess trying to bury her stuff in her old box getting litter all over the floor. This will be much more convenient since it deposits the wastes directly into a bag and the app will tell you if it starts to get full. (You can always check it manually as well.) It is a bit pricey so you have to decide if you really want to invest the amount to save scooping and cleaning up from a regular box but it seems worth it to me (assuming my cat will start using it). If you have more than one cat or plan to get another then it's almost a necessity. The accessories available from whisker look nice too but not really required, you can use regular clumping(?) clay litter and regular trash bags with it. Pretty fancy toilet for a cat but convenient for a cat owner. You could maybe teach your cat to use your toilet but I don't really want to share mine with my cat.
