    Quiet and efficient

This cools efficiently and is a very quiet unit. However: 1. I had to cut a portion of the window mount for the vent with a saw. My window is your typical window size, so it's really dumb that I had to do that for it to fit. 2. Auto mode isn't very useful because the range is way too big. It will reach above 64 before the AC turns on when you've set it to 60. 3. The app is inconsistent. Sometimes it will only let me set the fan speed by high/medium/low, other times it will let me set a percentage. Also IFTTT percentage would be nice.

Bad experience. I hope Whynter will fix the issues

When Whynter fixes all the issues, I will give it five stars and buy at least two of them. The positives: 1. The unit is quiet. 2. Cools very well the large room (around 500 sq f). Negatives: 1. I ordered a new item but got an open box item. 2. The box is funny. One side of the box says AC “Cools up to 500 sq. f” while the opposite side says AC “Cools up to 600 sq. f.” 3. Because of the open box, the window panel was broken. I contacted Whynter Support. Right away, they sent me a replacement. Guess what I got? The hose. I contacted them again. They apologized and said I could keep the hose, and they were going to send the window panel again. Guess what I got? The second hose. After that, they asked to send the hoses back. LOL. Finally, I got the window panel. 4. The AC worked perfectly for almost two months. A few days ago, it showed the error EH 06 and did not work. I contacted Support. The part of their response was, “To further assist you, please provide a photo of the unit’s display with the error code on it as well as how the unit was set up. Also, please provide the ambient room temperature.” So, if the Support does not know what this error code exactly means, how to fix it, and can not help me, I decided to return the unit. 5. When I started to move the unit from the room, I got a massive water leak from the bottom (I used this unit only in a cooling mode). Thus, it means there are problems with self-evaporating (or whatever this option calls). 6. The company does not yet start manufacturing and selling extended panels for balcony doors (I checked this info in July 2022). I am a fan of the Whynter ACs. I have 3 of them (different models). I liked the ARC-1230WNH very much, but unfortunately, I had to return it. Please fix all the issues, and I will buy at least two of them as I promised above!

I purchased the model ARC 1230 WNH from Best Buy to cool my small unheated, no air sunroom. We installed it this past weekend and it is doing an excellent job keeping us cool and comfortable and my ceiling fan is helping to circulate the air during these hot summer days. It also has heat, so I am looking forward to seeing how well it performs on cold days and nights. It was easy to set up, and when I had a few questions, Whynter was there to answer them for me. The portable unit also operates quietly. I think this is a good purchase. I am happy with it.

Wow! I can not remember writing a review for anything from a store however it would not be fair to briefly share my experience here. We have a 2000sq ft home open plan single floor. Our AC went out during covid. The system was 30 years old from when we built this house new. We could not afford a new one. We tried a window ac (used cheap) and it was a life savor to make things bearably hot. We tried a second after that one quit (also used). The a friend gave us a new portable called Easy Home. Small 1 hose. We put that into a bedroom and it is great. After insulating the single hose it got better. However the rest of the house was roasting again and placing a fan in the bedroom door way helped almost a tiny bit for the open house area. So after weeks of reviewing portable AC units we decided to splurge on what looked to be the best choice. $1000.00 after 4 year warranty. there are no reviews on this particular model Whytner Arc-1230WNH inverter. yes there are reviews on the slightly smaller Wytner ARCs all over the place but this one is new. Note: it was delivered UPS. The first thing I asked the driver was if it was in the truck right side up. It was. (If not known WAIT at least 4 hours for the freon to settle) Also once the packaging straps are un done the box lifts off of the unit that is sitting on foam. It just needs to be lifted 5 inches up to get it out of the foam to the rolling wheels built in. We installed this in our front window centered in the open center of the house. The ONLY tool required for us was cutting 4 inches off the window panel slide for it to fit. This is Normal for application. The rest took ...oh...30 seconds to 2 minutes to install and run. From my reading over hundreds of portable AC reviews I found 2 that had used a fan to further push air. So, we turned it on and I set it cold to 60 , I placed a fan on a table in front of the unit, put a box fan to blast across the open great room, set the swivel option on the AC blades to off and...WOW! It starts very quiet and slowly builds to the high speed we set it on. I call it very quiet, the fan on the table is all I here. This combination blows across the room. The ceiling fan further blends the air. The starting temp in house (Florida ) was 84.5 when we did the install last night. The temp now is 73.5 in just 10 hours. Our Central air could barely do this when it was young and new. The key is the fan in front of the portable AC. A portable AC has a rat wheel blower inside just like central air but it is much smaller. The smaller fan pumps out the cold air from the unit great but in a large room it falls short (literally, cold air falls) of making it across the room . The Assist fan seals the deal like you would not believe. The unit looks fine and exceeded our expectations. Yes the fan on a table in front of it is odd but it freezes the house ALL of it. The open area includes the dinning, living and kitchen at about 750 sq feet easily. The next option for us is to turn on the central air fan to draw the house cold air and redistribute it through the vents. LOL, crazy I know and a great work around for the failed cold air from the main central air. The remote? I have no idea. I can not imagine really needing it but this unit is also has wifi and heat, 2 drains, delay timers and much more. It even has a built in time delay relay so the unit will not be damage from power outage burst. The double hose design of the window exit is a tube in tube. IT DOES NOT get hot or even warm to the touch. outside it blows really hot so this surprised me. So far. This is best thing we have bought for the home since we built it. Obviously we will have to repair the central ac some day but why, this unit astonishingly works for our whole home with a central open plan design. If you are on the fence, well be assured this set up for me was great!

This unit replaces an older portable air conditioner / heater for a converted attic living area over the garage and works well so far, though we've not experienced significant below-freezing weather. (We didn't want to install an expensive split-system, or a hotel-style through-the-wall unit.) I have this semi-permanently installed and vented (for both in and out air flows) through the side wall of the house. The heating and air conditioning capacity is excellent. I would recommend using the setting which measures the temperature at the remote, as it works much better than the internal sensor. The unit generates a significant amount of condensate, so a drain line is needed. I have it running into a small condensate pump, where it is then pumped outside. (There is a small internal pump for the heater condensate.) For occasional use, it may be sufficient to drain the condensate into a bucket.

I normally never write reviews but this AC unit deserved my time. We live in a 1000ft apartment, with lots of electronics and fish tanks, all of which creates heat. We have a window AC unit in the bedroom which works great, but it really only cools the bedroom, it’s difficult to get the cold air out and to the rest of the place. We have used a LG portable in the past that lasted for 1 season. Then a GE that lasted less than a season, both would draw 13amps all the time. While they cooled the area when they worked, they would constantly draw 13amps as the compressor usually was running. Now we have the Whynter ARC-1230WNH. I had it shipped to BestBuy. The box was intact, but the straps was loose on it. Upon getting it home and unboxing it, the unit sits on a large amount of foam. That foam was shattered in lots of pieces. To my surprise the unit was completely fine, no damage to the unit. The window is only 14” wide so I cut the plastic just as I’ve had to do on past units. Upon startup, the unit pulled 3 amps, then it ramps up over about 30 seconds when it maxes out at about 13.64 amps. At the time it was 85F in the room, within an hour it was down to 78F. I normally leave it between 74-77F depending on the day. I have it set on cool with the fan on auto and it’s right next to the couch where we watch TV. The unit is very quiet. The unit itself basically doesn’t make any noise, the fan does of course. We can hear the TV just fine. Most of the time it draws 3.6 amps. When it needs to cool more it goes to 8.5 amps. The only time I see it pull 13 amps is when it’s off and hot in the room and it’s first turned on. Once it gets to the desired temperature it’s 3.5 or 8.5 amps, and I’d say it’s a 3.5 amps 70% of the time. This is a very large reduction in electric usage vs past models used. The inverter really helps and this alone made me happy with the purchase. Also the lights don’t dim around the house when the compressor comes on since it always ramps up, it does not spike. It’s also very smart. While it has its own app like many smart AC units, it also can be intergraded into your smart home by Alexa, IFTTT etc. and be made part of an automation. The remote also has a temperature sensor, if you turn on isense it will read the temp from the remote instead of inside the unit. We have noticed using the isense to be more accurate, the one in the AC unit reads cooler then it actually is which is typical of these units so that’s a nice addition. Because of the L shape apartment, we use a Dreo fan to push air around the corner which works extremely well. And this AC has no issues keeping up even in 95F weather. It does have multiple drains, but we have not needed to connect them, the self evaporator does the job. The hose does not get hot either like some models, it does get slightly warm but not enough for me to insulate it anymore than it already is. I hope this helped someone out there and I was able to answer some questions you might have had. Stay cool.

Super quiet and puts out a lot of cold air. As other have mentioned, it works best if you set a fan in front of it to push to air through the room better. I use it to cool my complete basement. I haven’t used the heat function yet but it will probably be put to test in a few weeks.

Buyer Beware of Warranty Scam and Poor Product

We bought this system in July 2023 for cooling and heating purposes. Now, in the middle of our first winter, the heating does not work. The manufacturer says they provide a 1 year warranty and we purchased the 2 year Geek Squad protection. However, both have failed us at this point and we are currently left with an expensive useless item. Even though we purchased Geek Squad protection, they will not do anything if the manufacturer has a warranty and the manufacturer says that in order for them to look at the item to potentially do any repairs, we must ship the item to California (at our own cost) and if the product is damaged at all in the shipping process, that is on the consumer and then they will do nothing. The product is nearly 2ft by 2 ft by 3ft and is very heavy so the cost alone of shipping the item makes it completely useless to ship to even try to take advantage of the warranty and again, the $70 Geek Squad protection can't do anything to assist either. Whynter has structured their warranty in a way that they are able to claim a year of protection while really providing worthless protection and Best Buy won't help either. Buyer beware of purchasing this product, any products from Whynter and beware of Geek Squad protection on these products. This was a waste of over $700.

The unit seems to be working okay. I purchased it to cool a 2 car Florida garage so I won’t really know how good this unit cools until we get well into the &0 degree days. A few notes…the “app” setup was seamless which is good. The remote that comes with the unit works just okay. And onto the window trim…I had to do some custom cuts and add a piece of wood trim underneath the trim that came with the kit as I have shutter trim to deal with. Not too big a deal but I wish the manufacturers were able to take into consideration “non-standard” installations. Lastly, it’s seems to be evaporating the condensation well enough, but time will tell. I’ll post an update in July on that if needed.

The air that the unit was blowing smelled terrible right from the beginning. It smelled like vinegar mixed with vomit (not like a "new product smell", but more of a "there has been mold and/or bacteria breeding in this thing for a long, long time. The unit looks nice, and even though the user manual was apparently drawn by a committee of 5th graders, my installation was no problem. Sadly, it's unusable due to the horrific odor emanating from it.

My wife and I purchased this unit to replace an aging window ac. The unit we received was a bit loud and was having some issues with heating. I reached out to Whynter customer service and after some troubleshooting, they sent out a new unit. They allowed me ample time to get the new unit setup and even gave me a few days to make sure that the new unit was working properly before scheduling the pickup of the old unit. I’m not going to lie, I was worried that I would have to fight to get the issue resolved, but Rowena and the team at Whynter took the time to make sure everything was perfect and they even reached back out to me a month later to make sure that everything was still good. Customer service doesn’t get much better than that! If you’re on the fence about this unit, but with confidence. Whynter has a great support team and stands by their product.

Heat pump does not work in cold weather According to a reply on one of the reviews, the heat pump refuses to turn on in temperatures below about 50 degrees F. This means that it is essentially useless to have a heat pump function. This is extremely disappointing, and I likely will be returning the unit because of this. I usually don't need heat until the temperatures fall below freezing. It is unacceptable that the heat pump refuses to turn on in these conditions. It is currently below freezing, and for the first time I am trying to use the heat pump, and it is not turning on whatever I try.
