I love the improvements over the Wii

The full HD resolution is neat, even upconverting old Wii games. I also was happy to take advantage of the ability of the game pad to act as a TV remote since mine seems to be lost somewhere. The other advantage I see with this system over the latest Playstation and Xbox offerings is the fact that the only thing you absolutely need an internet connection for is any system updates. Unlike the XBox, you don't need connectivity so someone can 'verify' your game is legit, etc. That is the main reason I will not buy that system. The Nintendo Land is a good tutorial for learning the gamepad.
