I was expecting a game similar to assassins creed and batman and I got what I expected plus more. The enemy system for the unique captains is frustrating and perfect at the same time. Getting killed by the same Orc over and over with him making fun of you each time you meet him drives me crazy in a good way. Especially when you finally get the best of him and cut him in two. I can't wait to get to the ability to control orcs. This is one game that did not disappoint me in the least. The nemesis system is fun too. Nothing like avenging a friend who got killed by a specific Orc. Pick it up if you are looking for a fun open world game with some new things to try out. I doubt it will disappoint.

I really wasnt expecting much from this game as movie tie ins usually aint very good. This one left me happily surprised, the action is awesome, the free roaming is excellent, and now you have the GOTY edition It's worth buying, I'm not a fan of these games usually but this changed me

First off the graphics are decent. The game play and controls are done really well. If you have played any of the arkham games the control scheme is basically the same. The plot is pretty well written nothing unpredictable though. The side quest can get repetitive and a bit tedious. Overall it is a great game , and worth the time if you are looking to grow your next gen library.

Excellent game overall. Graphics, story, and combat system are great and do the trick. They throw you right into it and you're free to do pretty much whatever you want within the world. There's plenty to do as far as quests and hunting down captains and other big game so you're never really left standing around wondering what to do next. Missions and other objectives are clearly marked on the mini map and navigation within the game and menus is never complicated. This game has the gritty action, violence & blood previous LOTR titles didn't so it really appeals to adult gamers. None of that PG-13 stuff here. Buy it, you can't really go wrong here.

This game is hard to master but by the end you feel invincible. Challenging combat leads up to a finisher and then BAM! Slopping off heads makes even the strongest of men giggle like little girls. I've put 30+ hours in and can't stop, lots to do and combat is super intuitive! A++++

One of the surprise hits of the year, Shadows of Mordor is incredible. One of the best offerings any console has right now and fantastic in every way. Must play game of the end of 2014, and since there's a while for much else to hit; if you haven't played it yet... BUY IT NOW!!!

This game is well thought out with great graphics. My problem is it dumps you into the action too quickly, and the amount of times button pushing and continuous manipulation of the controller is too much for an older person with arthritis. Even on the easiest setting it proved to challenging.

Not trying to take anything away from the game, but just get it when its cheaper. Visuals are awesome, sound sounds good on a decent set of speakers (5.1 etc), storyline is bland and repetitive. Game is still good, although it looks unfinished. Open world play, with "boss" battles sometimes having multiple battles at a time which leads to tense moments.

Shadows of Mordor borrows from, and is similar to, a variety of games, namely Assassin's Creed (open world), Far Cry 3 (things to do), and the Batman Arkham (fighting) series. It is a very satisfying game, if a tad on the easy side.

If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings and the gameplay of the of Rocksteady's Batman Arkhams game series. Then you will love this game. The voice acting is amazing (Troy Baker) and the game play flows perfectly as you decapitate enemies. It is rated M for a reason.

One of the best of the year. The Nemesis system is out of this world. Just a great sandbox game - better than pretty much all of them out there in terms of immersion and making you feel like a complete boss.

Shadow of Mordor combines numerous systems from other games, as well as it's own, to create a thoroughly enjoyable game. The combat is similar to that of the Batman: Arkham series, and the movement and world layout is similar to the Assassin's Creed games. What sets the game apart is the Nemesis System, which changes the way your enemies act and how they are related to one another depending on how successful or aggressive you are in eliminating them. If you find the Assassin's Creed and Arkham series enjoyable, Shadow of Mordor is a great game to play, whether you like Lord of the Rings or not.

I'm sure everything has already been covered by all the other reviewers. This is a fantastic game and I spent 24+ hours to playing this game, which is a good thing, as I lose interest in a lot of games fast. This one will make you want to keep playing!

By turning your every death into the start of a personal vendetta, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor makes you that much more invested in its open-world. The savage combat and satisfying stealth are just the means to exacting your ultimate revenge.
